So can I start off with the Alite Mayfly...

Pros:

Teeny tiny it is indeed. 635g of teeny tiny in fact. Clearly built to last from high quality materials Folded it measures 33x12cm max (because of how the chair folds some of the width is smaller)

Really comfortable. Surprisingly so for such a small chair. I'm sure it's not the most comfortable chair out there but given it's size i'm very happy. The caveat being that i'm not sure it would be so comfy if your arse was more than a couple of sizes wider than my size 12 one...

Looks nice

Cons:

Eye wateringly expensive. Rrp $100 - I got it for $77.55 after bartering on Ebay. Not available in the UK hence also high postage costs ($22.30) and cunting customs (£11.83)

No other cons as far as I can see though.... yet!

Shame I didn't call this thread 'Alite Mayfly or Lafuma Micro' for more comedy confusion with baby naming threads a la the Cobb vs Cadac thread!

I think we also need to cover dismount techniques, and for a thorough review, getting out of your chair when sober, when a bit tiddly but holding a glass of wine and totally in forrin. Marks awarded for not actually falling on the floor or showing your gusset.

You missed out of your pros list that your chair converts into the extremely fun two legged version that everyone sneered and poo-pood at last year.

Lafuma is a very pretty girls name. I may add it to the list for my third girl child wot I am never going to birth.

See I don't really find the fact it converts to 2 legs a pro. I rocked on it earlier and while it was nice to rock a bit I'd be pissed off at not being able to put all 4 legs down and relax!

Well further pros are that dh, all 6ft 4 and 14 stone of him, pronounce the chair very comfy. And he fit with no problems. Shame he'll need to stick with his mofo chair on the grounds of needing low back support or that would have been a shit load of extra boot space for more kit but it clearly is comfortable for people bigger than me!

Good to hear tall person's review of chair yellow. Can't believe I'm still defending the two leggedness despite not owning/sitting in it. Am sadface that you aren't having amazing fun balancing with it.

Well I took the chair to the park today which was fab - it fit in my bike basket along with the boys football. There only possible issue is that it is so light it might have blown away if my arse wasn't in it! :)

Can't speak for the micro one milliways. Its true the alite one isn't as easy as picking a camping chair out of the bag and sitting on it. But it only takes about 30 seconds....

Moon chairs are fab and comfy tis true. But also huge. A compromise i'm happy with!

OK, so just from a cost and delivery pov Lafuma are onitlikeacarbonnet. £50 for two extremely well made chairs and free delivery. Thankyouverymuch. Although I paid a fiver for 2 day delivery as I want to go away with them this weekend.

Set up is thus.
Hold chair. Undo U-shaped clip that is attached to a strap that goes round the legs. Ffffting!
Sit in chair.
A second and your arse is ready to get in.

I will have to go back and check weight and measurements but the Alite wins hands down.
The Alite is an actual and real chair that you could take backpacking, the lafuma is not. It's only 1.3kg so it's not going to give you a hurty arm, and it has a strap (no bag!) so you can sling it on your back like a hunting rifle, but I wouldn't want to clump up Snowden with it. or try to put it in my bike basket. It would fall out, too long.

HOWEVER, most importantly (for me) they will fit in our large wheely bags with the tents and sleeping bags to take on the train down to France, which our other mofo camping chairs will absolutely not.

Very comfortable to sit in. Quite nice being near the floor. I could scratch my dog's belly with out needing to put my gin down or tip it to an alarming spill angle.

Getting out, well I looked like Arwen rising smoothly from a mossy stone to greet Aragorn after a hard day of Orc slaying.
Dh was not so elegant. His lack of flexibility is frankly embarrassing. I will have to look away when he gets out of the chair such was the Wimbledon grunting.

Overall very happy with them. Now I do not have to sit on the floor in France so hooray for that.

He is not seeking asylum in my Lafuma micro pop up chair (although he would be comfortable were it possible)

So. I'm summary it sounds like a win for lafuma in terms of cost, delivery time and set up. A win for alite in terms of size / weight. A win for both in terms of comfort.

I'm very pleased I bought my chair although i'm sticking my fingers in my ears at the fact I could have got 2 very very similar chairs for less than it cost me for 1. And they would have arrived about 3 Weeks ago....

Knowing my sad self I would still have coveted the alite chair, despite the fact that i'm many years off backpacking camping with the boys, and as such it wouldn't have ended up being such a bargain

If cost were no issue I would go for the Alite in a flash. To have something that looks really quite comfortable to sit on, fold up and pack away in such a dinky bag and weigh no more than a can of coke is just remarkable.

I emailed the Alite folk in the States to ask about direct shipping costs and they won't ship atm. He did say that they are going to a camping expo thing this year where they are hoping to find a UK supplier, so that should bring down the shipping and cunting customs costs, even though the chair itself remains eyewateringly expensive.

Will all these high price camping gadgets, as they are built well, the hope is you will get many, many uses for them over the years and so the overall cost per use comes down to something a little less likely to make you want to cry.

Yes i'm certainly hoping it will last me many years. Having initially bought a whole pile of cheap shite camping equipment without researching it properly, that i'm now slowly replacing, I've learnt that in the end its actually cheaper to buy the best you can once rather than many increasingly more expensive items over the years...

Looking at vids on you tube it looks to assemble exactly the same as the alite but at 940g its slightly heavier, packs slightly bigger and costs £77 on the link above so in the same ball park as the alite
