recommend a dog friendly family friendly site in Devon please...

Hi all,
I'm after recommendations for a campsite in north or south Devon, near enough to coast to visit beaches etc..but will have car so doesn't have to be walkable.
MUST be dog friendly as we will be taking 2 dogs.
we have 6 dc aged 13,11,9,7, and 5.
wanting to go mid August

I'm a bit torn between campsite with facilities such as pool or more back to basics type. Don't want anything too busy or "haven-y" but do like the idea of a pool for the kids.

On the other hand DS1 (13)is a camping whiz (and is currently camping with the explorer scouts in Russia!!) and would love a campfire which does also appeal.
Perfect solution would be campfire, pool and dogs allowed....

We are hoping to go for 4 or 7 nights. Must have showers which aren't too disgusting!

we have camped a few times (maybe 3!) before but only for wk/ends nearby.
we have tent, sleeping bags, cooker etc and will get other bits we need.

oh...and the cheaper the better. ideally looking at under £200 for Mon-Fri

any suggestions??? ta!

Tricky, campfire and pool however, I do know of one. Alpine Grove nr Chard - Somerset rather than Devon but maybe 30 min drive to Lyme Regis, Charmouth ect (no ideas if they have dog friendly beaches I'm afraid, but my parents brought their dog to Alpine Grove so I know that it's ok). Fairly small site but if you can get a pitch in the rhodedendron at the back of the site it feels pretty wild and magical. Rest of site is nice too, under big oak trees, bit more manicured than your average campfire campsite. Good shower/toilet block. Small shop selling a fair range of stuff. The pool is not enormous and has no shallow end so children need to be either good swimmers or wearing bouyancy aids. There is a small play area and lots of woods to build camps etc. Campfires are in braziers that you hire, it is a bit pricey from what I recall so you might not want one every night.

Very impressed by Explorer Scouts - what an amazing experince for him - camping in the UK is going to seem pretty tame after that!

you are right in that a pool + campfire is a tricky combination - I may end up having to choose between them.

and yes, DS1's trip is a greta opportunity. He's gone for almost 3 weeks in total, some touring, then a week camping with the Russian scouts.
It has cost us a fortune hence we need to watch the budget for a family hol this year!!

Note that there is no phone/3G signal at all though in the Valley!

we have stayed in one on the outskirts of Torquay, on the way to Newton Abbott (the name escapes me but it's on the cool camping site I think) with our collie and it was fine. good showers and very peaceful. it was in a little village called daccombe and not far from lots of beaches, Dartmoor etc.that might suit?
