All our family holidays were camping. All over UK. Cumbersome frame tent in lovely shades of brown and tan ("coffee and cream"Grin), one big bedroom plus living area.
Strict rule not to touch the sides or else it leaked when it rained. Plastic bin sacks as flooring.
Loved it loved it loved it BUT don't do it with our kids.

Never. Consequently i've always wanted to. Never for DH - but surprisingly has no urge for the camping unknown either.

My dad was a scout master, and we all used to go with scouts every year. Real camping: dig the latrines, fetch the water from the river, chop wood for the fire which was used for all the cooking and heating water!

I got to try water skiing, abseiling, rock climbing, pot-holing, windsurfing, canoeing, etc. All before I was 12

Yup, lots, North wales, Brittany, lake district, possibly cornwall...
Dad was into basic camping...still shudder at memory of slightly stale cornflakes covered in slightly warm, equally stale milk which had been stored in our "fridge" ( washing up bowl of water...hmmmm). Small A-frame tent, single ring camping gaz stove with three pans which had fold-back handles and fitted into each other. A bucket with a lid...
