Cool Camping or other campsite guides?

How do people rate the sites in the book/website? I've got the book but have never stayed at any of them. I use ukcampsite, but that has a lot different sites listed.

Are all the Cool Camping sites full at all times due to their inclusion in the book? And how are the noise/rowdiness levels?

I think I answered my own question when the first thread on the search here comes up with the phrase "buntingtastic knobs" Grin

I'm partial to bit of bunting myself, in the right place, and can imagine a lovely girly tent. So I guess my question is: are cool camping sites full of knobs? Grin

Thank you!

Probably no more than other sites. They do tend to get booked up early though. Their emphasis I think is on the wild camping experience but with facilities. Caravans are usually out, tents and campervans in. Generally no entertainment except perhaps Forest School and that kind of thing.

thanks for your response, I was actually worried they might be too big and busy for me so that's reassuring.

I live in the Dales and although the lakes are well covered, there are very few sites in the Dales mentioned...

I buy them for the pretty pictures mainly Blush. If I actually want to find a good site I usually look on UK campsite.co.uk and put in "campfires". That way, you usually end up with the sort of site you like (not too big or with too much going on). However you have more to choose from. Cool Camping is a bit too limited.

That said, the sites it does include are usually great, but I wouldn't restrict yourself to only going for their sites. As hillbilly says, they do tend to get booked up once they are in Cool Camping - no last minute weekends away, certainly not if you are in a group!

We've got the Cool Camping England book and have stayed in three in the book and have loved all of them! We're near the Dales and have just stayed at Humble Bee Farm (selected out of the book!), admittedly it's more Yorkshire wolds than Dales but it was a little bit special Smile.

Only one was booked way in advance, the others we got last minute weekends at but they have all been pretty full once we got there!

I may have to eat my words - Humble Bee Farm looks lovely! Although a tad expensive for one adult and an infant.

I've also found Solway View on the CC website which looks gorgeous too (although that's a C&CC site)...

Maybe there's hope!

I stayed at Greenacres in Somerset (although before it was in the book) and can confirm a complete absence of knobs and rowdiness. Twas lovely.

Solway View is one of our favourites, it says C&C members only but we stayed there the first time without joining when we mentioned we saw it in Cool Camping, but after that they say you have to join.

It was worth the £41 joining fee for us because it really is a special site.

We planned a tour of Scotland last year with mainly Cool Camping sites, ended up missing out the first one on the list (near Loch Lomond) as too caravanny.
Drove to the next one, Camusdarach, where we stayed for the rest of the holiday because we couldn't bear to leave. Going back in August, can't wait! Grin

I think inclusion in Cool Camping can ruin a site. One of our favourites is really, really busy now due to its inclusion. Good for the owners. Not so for us and no longer so cool as far as I'm concerned.

Daisybell1 · 11/07/2013 09:24

Glad someone else thinks that Solway View is lovely - I think it's definitely on my list.

I take your point about it ruining a site though...

I wonder if I might like the Tiny Sites more - I'm thinking of C&CC membership just to get at their CS's...
