Been camping a few times with DH but this was our first time as a family. DD is 5 and DS is 2.

I lurked on quite few top tip threads so I thought I had it nailed.

  1. take loads of loo roll - turns out the toilet block was immaculate and FULL of toilet roll! Took 5 rolls (for 3 days) and used 1/2.

  2. take loads of food. Food is fuel and will keep you warm plus you are more active so you'll eat more - turns out I was so satisfied by my camp food and as I was busy I didn't snack out of boredom. Millions of food had to come back home!

  3. take head torches and many lanterns - well I seemed to completely forget that my home country which is also the country I was camping in stays light til nearly 11pm and is light again by 5am. Not a lantern or torch was turned on. Not a candle was lit!

Hahahaha. We had a ball and have learned some of our own top tips!

Loo roll is one of those things that obey sod's law. The one time that you decide not to bother with it, it will be the time that you go to a campsite that doesn't supply it!

I'm just contemplating head torches. But then here it is light till quite late... Hmm...

We had the bright idea of buying DD1 a telescope, so she could do star-gazing when we are camping. Had visions of us all out in the wilds, no street lights, studying the stars in those lovely black skies .......

Not in the middle of summer you dimwits! Not unless you want your children to stay up past midnight!
