We only did 2 days, but had a fantastic time. Found a \link{http://www.churchstile.com/\fabulous little campsite} in the middle-of-nowhere just past the back-of-beyond in Western Lake District. Very quiet, but family-oriented; lovely clean toilets/showers, and plenty of children for the kids to play with.

The weather was wonderful too - very cold first night, but very little rain to speak of.

Unfortunately the freedom to explore and be adventurous went to ds2's head. So on the evening of day 1 on finding the swing bridge at the playpark a bit small he climbed up on the handrails and balanced ... or rather didn't!

None of us got very much sleep that night as he woke up sobbing every 30 mins saying how much his wrist and elbow hurt Sad

Fortunately the local A&E had him assessed, X-rayed, and plastered (broken wrist/query damaged elbow) within 90 mins of us walking through the door. So it didn't spoil our holiday, but he is rather subdued!

Poor little mite Sad.

we had a good week, even Sam behaved himself and was rewarded with a bit more freedom than usual. Harry spent the time scratching the small scratch that wason his face and opening the cut, so now its a big cut but beyond that no mishaps. 53 days and counting until Isle of Wight now, and my parents are looking at a tent next week and hoping to join us next year.

Where did you go PeachyClair?

Hollands Wood, New Forest. fairly basic but very clean and friendly. And cheap. I like cheap. its the Isle of Wight next time, Nodes Point.

We had our first trip en famille with our new tent. We had great fun as we went with so many friends. THe weather was dire, lots of rain and COLD. We stayed 3 nights. It will take me at least that long to get the mud off. We had a good time though, it hasn't put us off. THe kids loved it. THe biggest problem was squeezing everything into the car. THe stove we borrowed didn't work either. Any recommendations for which stove to buy?

peachyClair · 01/06/2006 19:12

Depends on size you want- if you're after compact to fit in the car (same fo us too!), we bought the camping gaz party grill (also ahs a burner) which has a case but is small, would recommend wholeheartedly. If you want bigger, most people recommend the colemans dual fuel.

Wonderful :o It was great to spend quality time with ds and dp. I hadnt realised how much ds had grown!
The next is in planning, and we are looking at roofboxes Blush

We went to Bracelands, Forest of Dean. DH & Friend left am & took 5 tents with them. Had then all put up when we arrived after getting kids from school. We had 8 families together. Sat was wet but we went out, and by cooking time it was fine. We caught the sun on Sunday & dry tents to put away on Mon.

Would thoroughly recommend the mass curry cook - Sizzle n stir stuff works well, + wok some tubs of Pilau rice, add Nan breads (grilled on BBQ) + pappadoms - YUM!

The forest of Dean has loads of good walks, and when you have loads of kids together they amuse themselves - shelter building etc. We had a good game of rounders & ultimate frisbee.

Ab Fab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The campsite (forestry comission) outside beddglert was perfect for a family with kids our age. Nice playground and even a little stream for them to play in.

Great facilities, lots of hot showers, washrooms.

Weather was stunning, we actualy had to get sunscreen! Cold at night but we were warm enough.

Only down sides, I was 'attacked ' by the fold out bed and ended up with a black fingernail and a trip to a delightfil A and E where I had a hole drilled in it to let out the blood! I am also covered in midge bites. But like rosin our accidents didn't spoil the holiday.

Absolutely fantastic!

We really didn't want to come home. the campsite was great (Eisteddfa just outside Criccieth)Drew the owner couldn't be more helpful. Big level pitches, we even had a view over Tremadog Bay to Harlech Castle, stunning. A huge thank you to whoever recommended the site, was it buffy?

Weather was brilliant (told you so mb!) bit cool at night but we were roasting as soon as the sun came up, visited lots of beaches, got blown away at Shell Island, ate fish and chips on the beach at Criccieth last night - heavenly.

We came to visit you mb, well to have a nosey at your site on our day out in Beddgelert, even saw your tent! Were you next to the Land Rover? as it was the only Colorado 8 that we could see I assumed it was you, but I'd left my mn logo back at our tent!

Just wondering now how all the stuff goes back in the shed! Grin

We had a great time too. We stayed at \link{http://www.caravancampingsites.co.uk/dorset/freshwaterbeach.htm\freshwaterbeach} holiday park.
Bit chilly on a couple of nights but we survived. No complaints about campsite - dds had a great time in the swimming pools and at the evening entertainment with Flopper the rabbit. Grin.
At least the weather was good to us in the end. Smile

Blandmum · 03/06/2006 15:45

Lucy! God, my own persnal stalker! Yes that was us! The rover was not ours. We went to Harlech for the day too....great, kids loved it and so did we. Did the train up to B F , and went to Llnaberis as well as doing local walks.

LucyCampCat · 03/06/2006 15:49

Our 2 are still at the short walk and beach stage!

Have you seen how many threads there on on 'camping' to catch up on while we've been away?!

roisin · 03/06/2006 17:15

Great that anyone had a fab time!

.. or at least anyone who was miserable with noisy neighbours hasn't checked in yet Grin

The camp was nice an quiet. By 10-10.30 everyone was fast asleep!

The guy who runds the place told me that the previous week two families had pitched up and started drinking the minute that they arrived by 2 in the morning (!) the two families were totaly pissed and were fighting with each other. The next morning he booted them off the site. When they left, he cleared up two black bin bags of bottles and cans.

meandthomas · 04/06/2006 08:31

Roisin, We went to Shropshire, just for the bank holiday weekend. There were lots of friends there and generally just relaxed, my ds was so tired that he'd put himself to bed!

My ds got very cross when we were packing up to leave until he realised that others were and then i had muddy boots on my car seats, bibbing the horn, 'come on mummy' I get the impression he enjoyed himself:o

ellenrose · 05/06/2006 14:44

Absolutely fantastic despite pitching in a brief snow storm. Site was great (another forest holidays one - Glenmore in the Highlands) and amazing scenery.
