cheap travel towels needed (well wanted really)

hi, after some more travel towels that are not as expensive as lifeventure types but are still microfibre/quick drying/small pack size. and would love to find dcs dressing gowns made of microfibre for going to and from showers. i hate camping with proper towels - they never dry and smell manky about 30 seconds after they have been used. i dream of a travel towel stash big enough to do beach/swimming/showering etc so i never need a real towel again. even for the dog!

When we were backpacking we got some large colourful sarongs made of polyester type material. They squash extremely small (smaller than the microfibre towels), are large enough to dry an adult, can be used as cover-up and beach wear (even for men!). And when they are hung in the sun/breeze are dry in about 10 minutes.

They can also be found pretty cheaply in markets and so on.

The sarongs we had were similar to this but less girly. I still use mine for the beach.

For the kids, have you seen the microfibre poncho towels, like these

I've just bought some Karrimor travel towels from Sports Direct. They range from £5.99 to £9.99, depending on size. (Sorry, can't link on phone)

We've got the Giant ones, and they are fairly huge. They wash and dry really quickly, and are antibac so hopefully won't stink after a couple of weeks of trekking.

DD is testing them for us this week on her school field trip. Looking good so far though.

hope this works

Trying to link on iPad but I'm not very good at it...

we got something similar to these www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Microfibre-Sports-Travel-Gym-Fitness-Beach-Swim-Leisure-Camping-Bath-Towel-/221007428039?pt=UK_Bathroom_Mats_Rugs&var=&hash=item337511b9c7 a couple of years ago and they are still as good as new. I really must work out how to do that link thing!

Blimey what a useful thread. I never even thought of getting special towels for camping! Seems like everyone else has!

eggybrokenoff · 06/06/2013 21:19

i am terrible - since we gave up our tent for a folding camper (i know i know its not really camping but i love it) i love to have it all packed with everything except clothes so we can just up and go without having to plan and pack!

Those decathlon towels, brilliant idea. Am currently trying to get better prepared for packing and take less stuff (or smaller) as the car just can't take anymore (neither can I!) but normal towels are so bulky.

Right when can I go to decathlon!

eggybrokenoff · 07/06/2013 09:12

the decathlon and ebay towels look great - thanks for suggestions!

I have just bought the smaller ones from Decathlon for £3.99. They're 65 x 90cm so smaller than bath towels but will be fine for the showers.
