Ile d'Oleron - can anyone recommend a campsite?

Just wondered if anyone could recommend a campsite on the Ile d'Oleron? There are so many to choose from, we don't know where to start.
Our children are 6 and 2 years old, and we prefer smallish campsites, walking distance to a market/shops, and possibly even a beach.

Any ideas?
TIA Smile

We have a caravan in Ronce les Bains which is near the bridge to get on to Oleron.

I dont know the campsites over on the island but I would say you would want to be near the Grand Plage which is imo the best beach on the island. There are great markets in Oleron itself which is not far from the Grand Plage and one a bit further away at St Georges. Grand Plage itself has a small seaside town - cafes / shops / restaurants and is also where most of the surf schools / kids activities are based.

One other thing, if you are planning on going in August it gets VERY busy so I would definitley book in advance.

That doesnt answer your question at all, but may help a little!

We stayed at Les Gros Joncs two years ago. It's probably bigger than you're looking for and a short bike ride from the market but the beach was lovely and usually deserted and there was an indoor pool (website said it was paying but it wasn't) which was great for my 1 year old as the outdoor pools were a little chilly. We stayed in a chalet but there were some nice tent spots too. I think there was bike hire at the campsite. But yes, mega busy and it took us hours to get off the island on the Saturday we left (limited arrival/departure days as we were in a chalet) so try to arrive and leave midweek or pack a picnic to eat in the car

Not on Ile D'Oleron but Camping Interlude on the Ile de Re is gorgeous - quite big but beautifully laid out and really peaceful and right next to a lovely beach.

Thank you very much.
I think DH may have sorted something now for us to go to a campsite in the north eastern part of the island Smile

DewDr0p thanks for the recommendation. We went to the Ile de Re a few years ago and had a fab time. Want to explore a different island this time Smile
