Is it worth joining the camping and caravaning club?

We have been toying with the idea of joining and wondered if the cost would be outweighed by and site discounts? Are there any other benefits? Any info will be great thanks.

We're members. We get a magazine every month or so that satisfies my inner camping geek. But it is really worth it for booking campsites, as you know they'll be of a certain standard. You can also get good deals on travel insurance with them.

We were members for a few years before moving abroad. I guess the benefits were reduced priced campsites that tended to be of a really high quality. We even found a site with a bath for children, which we thought was wonderful.
They also had a list of very basic sites (I can't recall their name) which we found incredibly useful on occasion.
We used to book our ferries with them too and got a significant discount.
The disadvantage was that it was all a bit middle aged. The campsites were very similar to each other with little diversity.

We are members because each district association has a calendar full of events and rally's that happen at weekends all year round which means you can camp for less than a tenner normally at a huge range of places from big sites with entertainment to farmers fields. If you are a member of the club you can go to any of these rally's. so if you are a member of West Midlands you could go camping with rally's in Cornwall and vice versa. Our local association has barn dances, New Year's Eve parties etc. we love it and it gives our dcs loads of freedom and because its cheap we camp most weekends!!

We are members solely to use their Certificated Sites. These are usually small and basic, just a field on a farm, but some have toilet/shower facilities. IMO it's worth the £42 membership to camp for as little as £10pn for all 4 of us. We have now stayed at 5 CSs and they have all been great. We've never stayed at a club site though.

Ditto fraggle. We always stay in temporary sites. They're fab for spontaneous camping as you don't have to book in advance so we decide mid-week if the weather's good enough, then search for a temporary site in the area we want to visit. And as fraggle says, they're less than a tenner a night so really cheap.

They're much quieter than commercial sites so no one wakes you up in the morning and the biggest and bestest bonus for me is that you pay per night so you can stay until mid/late afternoon on the last day. This is miles better than commercial sites as you get another day's camping on the last day, instead of being up at the crack of sparrow's fart to put everything away so you can be off by 11am.

All that's worth the membership fee alone.
