When is it too wet to camp - enjoyably !!!

We are planning to go to Inwood this weekend but the weather is showing rain on Friday evening and all day Saturday. At what point should be write this off as a bad idea, bearing in mind I have 3 DC under 11 !!!

IMO, possibly when it is also showing rain all day Sunday too. Then you will have to pack up wet which is depressing and even more so if you have had nothing but rain all weekend. However, the forecast is so often wrong that I would not call anything off until the latest moment reasonably possible.

If you do decide to go, kit out all the DC with waterproofs and wellies and they will still have a great time. Do you have somewhere dry to shelter in the evenings - an awning or event shelter, type thing? The worst thing will be if it is too wet for a fire and you only have a tent to sit in all evening.

I don't like setting up in the rain and it is very hard to pack up in the rain. Our tent isn't really big enough to live in in prolonged rain, but if you have a huge living area it could be OK.

Cooking, having wet feet on and out of the tent, getting soaked when you nip out for a wee...it all gets a bit much.

Hmm. Tricky. Inwood does have a lot of err woods, so there is plenty of shelter. However, it probably gets pretty muddy too. Agree with MummyPigs though, wait til Friday to decide, weather forecast often changes. Personally, though if by then it still shows mostly rain all weekend I would probably postpone.

If proper rain were forecast, rather than showers, for the majority of the weekend we would cancel.

I went last May after there had been a huge amount of rainfall. Everything was waterlogged and the mud got everywhere. It was cold and damp and a completely miserable experience especially with kids. They loved it during the day but got covered in mud and it was a nightmare to keep them and the tent from getting caked in the evening. I would cancel personally.

We won't be going now. There's heavy rain forecast for Saturday.

We want to try out the new tent and sims before our main holiday but I don't fancy taking it just to get it wet and then have to find time to get it out again to dry.

Oh dear Quenelle. I do hope the weather starts to get better soon. With the exception of the bank holiday a couple of weeks ago, it has been crap. I couldn't go through another year like last year. The mud!!!

It is enough to turn you to the dark side!

Although we did go to Bluestone in Pembrokeshire in March this year (before our official camping season starts, so allowed ), which is along Center Parcs lines, but cheaper and (we think) better, and we loved it. If it wasn't so far away, the tent might well never see another outing....

This weekend has turned out better than last - so far, and here in the SE.

The mid-weeek forecasts predicted rain all day yesterday - not a drop!

Was anyone put off and now regretting it? I wish I was camping this weekend. (but hadn't planned to).

We once pitched our tent with some ducks paddling in the grass outside the front door. We were scooping water out with the dustpan as we were putting it up. That was just about my limit of "not too wet" - Fortunately by the time the floods that came a few days later we had packed up and gone home.

Oh Quenelle . What a shame. We weren't planning to camp this weekend anyway but I was a bit gutted we weren't in the end as we have had no rain and sunshine all day today here in SE London. And it was still predicting rain today when I got up this morning, albeit 50/50.

Still all our clothes are washed and dry, so every cloud (as it were)...

We are at Elderflower Fields Festival next weekend so no doubt there will be floods.

We camped last summer in the rain for a week, muddy Latitude festival followed by campsite in Southwold, had a fabulous time. No living room in tent, no standing up room either LOL. We had wellies and crocs, lightweight layers which would dry easily and excellent coats, a spare groundsheet for covering the gear or laying it out for packing in the rain. No jeans, these are horrid if they get wet, we opt for shorts, cropped trousers or lycra jogging leggings.

We didn't book the whole week due to the forecasts but went to Latitude and decided to see how we felt at the end of it then booked one day at a time so there was no compulsion to stay if we weren't enjoying it.
