The most cold I have ever endured under canvas- but with a silver lining!

We're just back from 2 nights away- optimistic that we were appropriately equipped for chilly weather- to start, the site was brill and we will definitely return, lots to do and see, the kids were delighted with the facilities and v quiet neighbours, I guess because we were mostly surrounded by caravanners, we even got someone in a nearby tent playing their guitar melodically into the wee small hours-

After really suffering all night, we were looking forward to a night in a pod- courtesy of my lovely sis-in-law's Xmas present-

V interesting area of Scotland with lots to see and do, only a couple of hours SW of where we are so definitely to return but perhaps in July or not leave home without 4 season sleeping bags & some gin for me and DH.

Before our next trip I am getting a 4 season sleeping bag and a balaclava. I had thought the rain was worse but once you get cold in a tent you can never seem to get properly warm again.

The introduction of pods on campsites is really great isn't it? Opens up the camping season to non tin-tenters for much longer. Getting into a cold sleeping bag when you are already cold is grim. When we did a weekend in Feb last year we went directly from pub to sleeping bag (and then the following morning sleeping bag to pub -for breakfast) with no fannying about outside.

We normally go to Hoddom over the Easter break a nd really enjoy it too. Didn't make it as working on house. It's also the coldest we've ever been camping, with the dog's bowl being frozen and us taking to bed at 7.30 to keep warm. Did you walk along the river? Love that walk.

Hi Sammac hee hee at frozen dog's bowl! We took a walk along the edge of the golf course, very nice too, it was a case of trying to ensure a sound night's sleep, shame the temperature was so blimmin' low though or we would've gone further.

What's the restaurant/ takeaway like? We had diy chunky chicken with rolls and the kids had super noodles and tuna!

Slubber I love your 'pub' concept, that would have been my plan had we just been the two of us, me & DH. Stoke up on fuel before sleeping soundly.

We ve only ever had chips!! Remember took ages. Been in the bar while children played around. Also dh normally plays golf. You can do a circular walk over the bridge and along the river, which is normally quite sheltered. There's a pool in Annan which is quiet.
