European camping holidays with no car?

I don't drive, but the kids are desperate to go on one of those eurocamp type holidays. To be fair, with three kids who have all the energy in the universe between them it might not be a bad idea, but I need to know if it's possible? We travel light to be fair, so in your collective experience are there any camps with decent public transport links? We're not too fussed about location, as long as there's stuff to do and it's not utterly dire:o

We went to Vilanova Park near Barcelona through Thomson Al Fresco a few years ago.

Flew to Barcelona airport, and arranged a taxi transfer through the campsite for umm.. about £40 return - pretty cheap.

We didn't hire a car once there - we used the bus service down into the town where we could catch a train up and down the coast, or a bus to anywhere else.

It was quite a big site, seemed to be plenty to do. Very hot too in August :)

we usually use a campervan - so although we have transport to get to sites it is good when we arrive to park up and leave van and then use buses.

There is a campsite on the beach at barcelona that we use - been three times now. We walk to local shops and get bus into city - then use beach and pool on campsite for free

they have bungelets to rent

you can get the bus into town from the airport and then a bus to the campsite - it may take about an hour to an hour and a half though

If you choose a large enough site, then you probably won't have to leave it. Kids just want to stay in the pools IME. The brochures give distances from airports.

We are considering the isle de re for the future - train to la rochelle, then bus to the island. Cycling is big there so hoping this may be a good idea...

Ile de re is definitely possible. Cheap flights to La Rochelle, then bus or taxi over to the island, then hire bikes. We go to Interlude, which has Canvas and Eurocamp on site...

Hi, we went to Camping Fabulous in Rome last year, we flew to Rome Ciampino airport and arranged a return taxi transfer to the site, which was about 30mins from the airport. We used public transport to get all over (and spent a few days by the lovely pool!). Really glad we didn't try to hire a car to be honest, the traffic in Rome was terrifying. We went with Canvas holidays but eurocamp, keycamp etc all seemed to have caravans and tents there.
