Glamping / yurt / teepee etc within 1.5 hours of North London?

My kids really want to go camping but DH not keen on the full-on camping experience, so we want to give glamping a try. Featherdown Farms looks amazing but too expensive, so we're looking for something like a yurt, but we'd really like to be within about 1.5 hours of North London as we may be doing termtime. Everything I've come across seems to be in Cornwall, Devon, far side of the Cotswolds. Any tips on something a bit closer? Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Chilterns, north Kent, etc?

Have you seen the barefoot yurt website? www.barefoot-yurts.co.uk/, i have been there with my friend for the past two yrs running and have really enjoyed it (although it has rained both times we have been there but that hasnt put a dampner on it) we are in woodford north east london and i think it takes just over an hour from here.... there are two yurts that sleep 4 people in each... amazing views, woodburning stoves fairly good equipped kitchen (no electric though) apparently Paul McCartney lives next door...there is quite a bit to do in the area, we had lots of fun... might be a bit too big for you... it was an amazing weekend though...

Those look lovely sara13 - maybe still a bit on the expensive side for the friends we're going with but I'll try.

Wish I hadn't looked at the featherdown site, looks so lovely, but they have really ramped up their prices - £400 for a weekend's 'camping'!

Also considering 'pods' though they are basically carpeted sheds, not sure that qualifies as glamping!

thats a shame, it has been £280 the last two years we have been.... we kind of priced it at £70 a night for each family which we didnt think was too bad....although it is a composting loo!! i must say the woodburning stove was a winner with regards to me staying outside!! . very luxurious though...they had a tipi site nearby too not sure of the prices though!! good luck with your search. it was a nice part of the world though!

I've been to this campsite and its nice - I'm not to far from Nth London and it didn't take too long to get there.

Welsummer Nr lenham in Kent is very cute, no wood burners but you are allowed campfires. Small site so happy to let children wander. It's a bit more 'rustic' but good fun for a couple of days.

Is Hastings too far? Freshwinds is lovely.

Oh no, those mega pods at deers glade are booked up right through september :-(
