Cambridge Folk Festival with 6 and 4yo?

Thinking of booking to go to a festival this year and Cambridge is one of our options. Has anyone camped there with young DC, what's it like? Can you park near the tent and if not can you hire trollies to lug your stuff? Can you hire trollies overnight like at some festivals so the DC can kip in them while you watch the bands?

There are two camp sites for the festival. One is on the festival site and the other is short distance away.

If you want to camp on the festival site you have to park in a car park round the corner from the festival. If you camped at Coldhams Common you can park your car at Coldhams Common, and there are regular busses to the festival site.

There are no hire trolleys at the festival however, everything within a close proximity to each other.

If you camp at the main site then you can't drive to your car but if you camp at the common you park by your tent, it is quieter for sleeping children but there is plenty for the children and there is food on site plus sainsbury in walking distance.

I'm considering a festival next year (mine are a couple of years older),so I'm watching with interest.

I was thinking vaguely about the Big Green Gathering (I think that's what it's called) .

I've been. You can park near tents if you go for the Coldhams common campsite, then you have to catch the free bus every day to the main site. On the main site you can't. I don't think the hire trolleys but there is a free bus service from car park to campsite. People improvise with kids buggies, bikes, etc

There's lots on for kids, but it's quite a busy and crowded festival so you have to stay with them all the time at that age. Personally I found it a bit annoying to be paying so much for a ticket only to miss most of the bands whilst hanging around the kids area most of the time. Smaller festivals give you a bit more freedom to watch some music whilst your DCs play nearby.

purpleroses have you got any suggestions of smaller festivals where you don't have to watch the kids like a hawk all the time? (though I would imagine even small festivals will involve a heightened degree of kidwatching,your point is the whole reason why I wouldn't do the likes of Glastonbury with them)

smallsqueak we have just booked for wood festival in may. We wentb2 years ago with 4 year old, now returning with both DS 4 & 6. It is Eco / folk type vibe but small - we had a super time. They have only opened up for bookings today www.woodfestival.com

Camped at CAmbridge last year with a 6 and 8 year old, at the main site (Cherry Hinton), you can park to drop off camping stuff and the car park isn't far to walk/bus to. We found it was really good - but then I was happy to be at the tent with the boys whilst DH went off on his own. Will be doing it again this year.
