Any campsite recommendations Alps/Alpes Maritimes/Italian lakes?

We're thinking of a camping holiday in or near the Alps this year and wondered if anyone has any campsite recommendations? We like the look of the Alpes-Maritimes, but neither of us has been there, or the Italian Lakes, and we're also considering northern Italy outside of the Alps. We have our own gear, so could 'proper' camp or would consider mobile home or on-site tent. Probably driving, but could also fly-drive if we're not taking all our camping stuff. We're planning to go in early July (the perks of living in Scotland!).

We went to a campsite on the banks of the Serre-Poncon lake about 3 or 4 years ago. It's quite a basic site. It has a very small shop, a ping-pong table as far as I can remember, but you can swim/boat, etc in the lake. It's fantastic. The views are great. It was the municipal campsite at Savines les Lacs (think that's how it's spelt). We then did a day trip to Turin which is a really pretty city.

Is it a take your own tent camping holiday or a drive to a ready set up tent/mobile home type of holiday you are looking for?

Ferme Serraz definitely takes direct bookings for emplacements, I can't remember about La Ravoire.

We used to do lots of fly drive camping in the Alps before ds was born but can't really carry the stuff now. Last year we did Eurocamp in Lake Garda and this year we are going to Annecy. I would say to book directly with any campsite you like the look of as we have found I much more flexible with more availability. Good luck finding somewhere, I have spent so many hours looking at the same thing!

Thanks for the replies - sorry not to get back on sooner - got a bit waylaid this week! I'll check out those two Eurocamp sites adn teh Savines les Lacs one. We're also considering this one www.le-prieure.com/gites-camping-mercantour-alpes-maritimes.php which looks lovely.

I don't know the camp sites, but I do know Savines and the town at the top of the lake (Embrun) very well (where there is also a camp site). It is a fabulous area with loads to do in the summer. Look at the Les Orres website (20 mins drive away) for some ideas. We nearly always drive, but if you fly to Marseilles, it is a pretty easy drive. Towns of Gap and Briancon within easy reach.

Also re Savines, check out the Tour de France as there is a time trial going through the area (Embrun to Chorges) on Wed 17th July, with the previous and following day finishing and starting in Gap....we'll be there to cheer on Bradley!

Bella Italia on Garda, but it is quite pricey. The restaurants are very good though, and it is a very big, well equipped camp. Lake side access, plenty for kids.

Sportcamp wolfgut in Austria - camp very small and quiet, but nice restaurant, lovely lake to swim in, and a brilliant location for exploring hte Alps/
