Caravan to buy or not...

I'm thinking of getting a caravan. I am a single mom and I wonder if it is easier than a tent. Is towing hard?

Advice and opinions appreciated!

I think towing is pretty hard from what my sister and her DH said...especially at first. They got one last year and have left it on site in a nice place....the farmer who owns the place, drives it off site and leaves it in a field and they only pay for rental when they stay and he puts it back on the main site.

I think a touring caravan is quite tricky...but then so is camping! Techically camping is simpler but caravans offer more security and more comfort.

If you're nervous, you could go on some online caravan forums and ask for advice...they probably have a sort of beginers guide. if you want one you should go for it...and join whatever the best breakdown service is for caravanners...just in case!

Towing is not hard providing you have the right vehicle. Positioning the caravan can sometimes need two people but you can buy devices that help manoeuvre it in to position. I love my caravan - I don't like the discomfort of air beds in a tent.

I doubt its hard, but you need to know what you're doing. Theres speed limits for caravans on the motorways, and limits on the weight you can tow, depending on when you passed your test. The caravan club run a towing course, although I don't know how much it costs. We've got a camper van, which seems much easier.

IMHO towing's easy but you have to keep your wits about you (and gag the kids not let children distract you. I give them a map and tell em they're the satnav Grin ). The caravan club do good towing courses which I'd strongly recommend. I've been towing caravan since 18yrs old, but my brother got me one of their courses for my 40th and it was awesome. There are different levels and focusses so you can pick one to suit yourself. Wink

Firstly do you have the correct license to tow remember if you passed your test after 96 you have a limit of what you can tow but it is quite generous I've been towing caravans since 1998 and find it relatively easy just remember you need more room to pull out and also to be courteous to other road users. here

I have the correct licence because I am old enough to have taken my test ages ago!

Thanks for all the advice. It sounds like it might be do-able and I think I will go for one of those courses if I decide to get one.
