Spontaneous camping trip - tell me where to go!

If, by some chance, the sun should poke its face out from behind the clouds this summer holidays, where would you reccommend I go for a spontaneous camping trip?

Live in Hackney, East London and don't want a massive journey, so Scotland - thought lovely - is out. I would like to be able to go somewhere very last minute and not need to book weeks n advance. I'd like the length of stay to be flexible and not have to commit to a week on the pitch.

I have a tent, a car, a 4 year old and 2 two year old.

I will go wherever you send me!

I'm not sure how spontaneous you could be (we booked last year), but Ewelease Farm in Dorset is nice. It's an organic farm that opens it's fields up to campers for August only. Right on a stony beach with fossils galore, lots of other children to romp with and freshly baked organic loaves in the mornings. You can have camp fires too Smile.

Wherever you end up... have fun!

Downshay on the Isle of Purbeck, you don't need to book, close to beaches, woods,Corfe castle...£17 per night for large tent, one car and family of four! Clean facilities too. Beautiful views if steam train and Corfe castle too. You just literally turn up and pitch!

We've been:

www.wykedown.co.uk/campsite/campsite.htm

and

www.homefarmradnage.co.uk/index.html

recently. Both are nice, and have pubs at the top of the road. Grin And they are near.

Have you tried Manston Caravan and Camping near Ramsgate? There are some cracking beaches around there and the campsite is very relaxed.

Go on Uk campsites website and do a search in the area you want to go. Read some reveiws and look at some websites.

That is what I do.

Good luck and have funSmile

Just got back from Wellington country park near reading. So much fun for the kids. There were quite a few free pitches during the week but it filled up at weekends. Worth checking out.
