I was camping this weekend, and someone was using one of those disposable BBQs. They had put it on a plastic and wooden tray and set it on a plastic table about a metre from the tent.
They weren't watching it and sadly it burnt though and set fire to tray and table which started to melt and set fire to grass.
I happened to be walking past and ran back to tent for our fire extinguisher and another camper put it out.
There were two children inside the tent who couldn't get out without going past fire :(
Lucky no one was hurt and only damage was table.
Please make sure your fire and BBQs are far enough away from tent and have water or extinguishers near by.
Off to buy a new one before next trip.

Sheer stupidity! I hope they reimbursed you for the extinguisher! Thank the Lord the children were not harmed, or anyone else. You really would think nobody could be that daft though.

At least you can feel proud of yourself that you likely saved two children's lives. Well done! Did you give them a piece of your mind? I remember camping as a young adult and seeing someone with an instant BBQ under their car bonnet to keep it out of the wind. Straight on the grass, which was bone dry. My tent was down wind, with my young niece asleep inside. They would not move it or put it out, so I woke my niece and went to the office. They were asked to leave immediately.

Besides the risk of fire, do people still not understand about fumes??

Shock at that level of stupidity!

Thank goodness you and the other camper saw what had hapened.
