camping alone with dc - anyone done it?

I'm planning a 4 night camping trip with my 2 dc (3, 6). I've a few campsites in mind that I've been to before that are quite family friendly and which I am familiar with.
But - I guess I am slightly apprehensive at being alone with them camping. Any advice? Does anyone else do this? I really fancy the adventure with them (dh can't come) but just want to make sure I've thought it all through. (Not worried about peeing in the night, more the security/anything I've not thought of)

I camp on my own with my DC (7), first trip on our own was when he was 4. Hardest bit is having to carry everything. I encourage my DC to join in and help with things like drying dishes although mostly he runs off to play with other children, dogs or play equipment.

Not sure of any security concerns.

I camp with my three dc (now 6,8&11 but minus two years when we first went!) as DH Doesn't Do Camping Grin and doesn't only work termtime like me! At night I zip the bedroom to the top so that the dc can;t reach the zips open it from the bottom without me being aware. They also have [too many] rules about how and where they play, and they all help because we don't have dad about. DS1 and 2 help with the pitching (err they hold a pole each, nothing huge!) and smallest dc is given lame tasks jobs to do to keep her busy too. Grin I thing if you have the kit and a bit of a plan, you will be fine and the adventure is great! Enjoy!

Great, thanks for both answers, I feel reassured that it's no big deal really. I am hopeful that if I do need another pair of adult hands (so to speak) that there'll be a friendly family nearby who might be able to help. Other than that, I am looking forward to our adventure!

I do this lots with my 2 Ds's aged 5 and 8 you'll love it ...... Just don't expect too much help from them :o

I did it without a car with an almost 3 year old and it was hell. I think with a car (and without him getting a vomiting bug at camp Hmm) it would have been fine. So long as they are warm and well fed and you are there, all should be well :)

I've been twice on my own with my 2. First last year when they were 5.and 3 and again this year. I was similarly apprehensive but keen to do it as I like camping much more than dh. This year we went to a wildcamping site which dh would have hated and it was amazing. In a way it's easier on your own as you just crack on whereas together there are.always.disagreements about the unpopular jobs!

No specific advice - just have the confidence to do it as you will be fine. Pm me if you wasn't to chat, more x

PS I might be a,little pissed :)
