France in September - warm enough for the beach

I feel like there have been a million Camping - in - France topics lately, and maybe even one on this very topic, but I couldn't find it so apologies if I'm repeating someone.

My in-laws are having a family reunion in mid September in Dordogne and we are going to drive there and stay in the adjoining gite. We are considering camping a few days on the way back (to help justify the expense of getting there and as a consolation prize for me ).

I know it's not really on the way back but I was looking at the noirmoutier beach site through Indigo and was wondering if anyone has been in late september and if we have any chance of having beach weather. Or, if not, recommendations for a beach or near beach campsite that will be warm. Pre-DCs DH and I spent a holiday in a hotel in Cap-Ferret and thought the Gironde looked lovely.

Or alternatively, if anyone can recommend good campsites between Dordogne and Calais to help break up the drive and recover from in-laws that would be great too. My DSs are 3.5 and 1.5 so really, space to run around is the main criteria rather than big waterslides. My preference is for small sites but for just a few days I'm not too bothered.

I would recommend the area round La Tranche sur Mer rather than noirmoitier for the weather. We certainly go to the beach right through September.

Il de Ré could be good too.

Interesting - is it just being that bit more South I guess that makes a difference, eh? Can you recommend any specific sites?
