Portable baby monitor for camping

Long story but I have just destroyed the parent unit for our BT 150 baby monitor. Annoyingly, this monitor seems to have been discontinued in favour of the BT 200/250 range but, from what I can see, the new ones have baby units which are mains operated only. We need to be able to put batteries in the baby unit part, as well as the parent unit, for camping weekends where there is no EHU.

Does anyone have a monitor which they use camping and which they rate for use outside? Otherwise, I guess I will buy a used BT150 from ebay but I think I would prefer to buy new ideally.

We need a monitor as we often camp with friends and don't want to take the risk we won't hear DD cry out over the noise of talking/campsite noise generally/other children and babies crying etc.

TIA

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the suggestions are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out baby monitors.

Read reviews of the overall best baby monitor as well as the best sensor pad and rechargeable monitors to see which ones came out on top.

Hope that helps! flowers MNHQ

I'd just buy a cheap one for camping use. If you and your DH have iPohone you can also use them as baby monitors using some sort of app.

moocowmrs · 18/07/2012 12:58

i have an android phone and have an app that rings another phone if noise vol going beyond a set level. mine was free but there are loads to pick from and some to buy.

Thanks for your replies. I will check out the app idea - unfortunately, DH and I both have Windows phones which seem to be a bit low on apps but I will see if there is anything.

As we have to buy a monitor for home use anyway, and may not be able to find an app, does anyone have a monitor they use for camping which they would recommend and which takes batteries in both units (I will ask this question as well in Baby Monitors, but I thought I would just see if anyone here has anything good)?

Thanks again.

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bt-baby-digital-monitor-150-/300743099910?pt=UK_Baby_BabyMonitors_SM&hash=item4605af8606#ht_499wt_1416 This is like the BT one we used, I used it camping also, my boys are 3 now so it isn't the new model. I haven't checked if the new model can be used without the mains.

Sorry, I've just read your post properly, AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Can it still be baby brain when they are 3 year old!

KittieCat · 18/07/2012 23:02

We have a Vtech one that IIRC we got in mothercare. It takes batteries in both the handset and the baby unit.

MummyPigsFatTummy · 19/07/2012 09:23

No worries moomintash - I still have baby brain after 2.5 years - in fact, that is what got me into this baby monitor destruction mess in the first place!

Thanks KittieCat - I will check out that Vtech one - I was starting to worry no one made them for batteries any more.

I'm astounded that there's the possibility of NOT hearing a baby cry on a campsite Grin
