Hi all
We're going camping in a couple of weeks with our one year old. Has to be said, we're novice campers but going with lots of others who have most of the kit. Main thing I'm worried about is the cold and wet. He doesn't sleep in with us (never has), so thinking we'd take travel cot and layer him up in 2.5tog sleeping bag. But can you get higher tog sleeping bags? And what else do we need to think about? Waterproof all in one so he can crawl around? Any advice really welcome.....thanks.

get a double(end to end) sheepskin put it under him, on top of camping mat,

it makes it very comfy and warm, my children sleep really well on them, as do I, they last a life time, you can get too hot in a tent, so layers rather than super thick sleeping bags, micro fibre fleece blankets are great, dry quickly as well,

IMO herdwick sheepskin are far superior than most, so if you shop around there are some good deals about, herdwicks look great so I keep mine on the end of the bed when not camping.

I took my now 4yr old camping when he was 13months old. He loved it! To sleep at night he had his travel cot as we have a big tent. He wore a long sleeve vest, 2 sleepsuits/babygrows, a 2.5tog gro bag and then we had a thin quilt type blanket over that and tucked in under the mattress iyswim. He slept really well and I seem to remember only woke in the night once out of 7. In the day (of wet) he wore an all in one waterproof suit and wellies over his usual stuff. Have fun!

great tip, thank you. Any ideas where I can get one from? And would you not bother with the travel cot (think we're borrowing a bell tent so should have space)....

ring and ask the woman who runs this shop, she has done great deals for us before

I'm always giving them as presents to friends, I can't imagine camping without them,

I also use them to line those camping chairs so when you sit out at night you don't get a cold back,

herdwicks look like this

here

nice one

I would ring the lady, in the first link, ask her, looking at those others I now realise she does a very good deal.

get a nice couple of double end to end, herdwicks for you and a funky coloured one for DS,

she has the most amazing bed spreads in there, my very wimpy friend will not face the great outdoors without hers.
