Camping in Gorges du Verdon-any recommendations?

Virgin camper wanting to take my DSs (4.6 and 18mo) for a first camping trip probably at the very beginning of September for a couple of nights. DP will be working, the kids will have had no other holiday, so I want us to have an adventure before term starts! Am I insane to be even considering this??

For me it is just a couple of hours drive away, so if the children hate it (or don't sleep or drive me nuts) I can just pack up and go home.

Has anyone camped there? Any good sites? Ideally somewhere 'rustic' :)

Lucky you! We have only ever visited for a day whilst camping nearer the coast, but it is so beautiful I am envious you live so close!

Bumping for you anyway :)

We camped in a field type campsite up the hill away from the lake from les salles du verdon, in our pre children days. It was a lovely place, but the campsite was very very rustic, with only cold water. Perhaps not exactly what you would want with kids. It was the only place we could find though because we hadn't booked and arrived in the afternoon. The gorge walk is fab, and we thought that the river 'floating' excursions looked cool, but weren't quite radical enough to give it a go.

Thanks! I will check out salles sur Verdon! Cold water only might be a tad rustic for us, depends on the weather though!
