How many tents do you have?

We have a lovely big Montana lake which we used this weekend.
Dh has suggested we need a weekend tent, one for using if we are only camping for one possible two nights. I'm happy with what we have but happy to consider it.
So do you have more than one tent?

It's more like we kept the old tent when we got our Outwell.

4 person polyester dome tent for weekends - not especially small or quick to pitch though.
Outwell 5 berth tunnel for serious trips (main holidays)

DH's tiny one man pod tent for his solo trips.

I would like a 2 or 3 person small tent or pop-up for weekends with just DH and I or DH & the kids (dream on) - have to look out for a bargain.

El cheapo tent - Scafell Eclipse or something, world's smallest 6-man tent. We bought it to try out camping, used it twice as a family tent and then bought a Monty 6. It's mine and DD's festival tent, though I need to check it out before we go to Camp Bestival. I'm secretly hoping it's bust worse than I remember (I stuck one of the poles THROUGH it's channel) or mouldy so I can buy a pop-up without DH going spare.

And the aforementioned Monty 6, which is fab but gives me palpitations thinking about pitching it.

Main family tent is Vango Maritsa 500.

Also have a 4-man Eurohike cheapy tent - bought to see if the kids would take to camping before shelling out for a decent tent. We still use it occassionally for 1/2 night breaks in the sun. If it's wet we take the Maritsa as there's more space inside and you can stand up in it.

I have a few tents ....

a 5m bell tent from soulpad
a 3m bell tent from Albion Canvas
a full 18 ft regular indian teepee with 24ft poles (NOT a weekend number!)
an old lichfield canvas frame tent
a dewaard albatros
2 de waard herring gulls (6 person 'albatroses')
an albion canvas safari tent

the business also has another dewarrd herring gull, a 16 ft yurt and a 24 ft yurt and two 5m geodomes.

We have 2. An Outwell bear lake 6 and a Decathlon Quechua XXL llll.

I love the bear lake but bought pop up just for weekends. Would now really like Quechua 4.1 as on sale and you can stand in it but dh says no!

Too many. Blush

An ancient Vango 4 man
A Vango Aspen 700 - lovely tent but pitches inner first. Had a nightmare pitching it in heavy rain as I couldn't get the sodden (sodding?!) outer over the top, it was too heavy to lift.
A Kampa Filey 6 - coming with us on our five week odyssey soon.
2x Quechua Base Seconds, 1 x Base Seconds Full, a 4 man 2 Seconds and a 3 man 2 Seconds which we use all together or in various combinations depending on who is going, for how long etc.

The Quechuas do make great weekend tents, and you could always add a Base Seconds to the front of a 4.2 to give you a bit more space.

For the 5 of us

*Wild country monsoon.
*Wild country camplite, which we have a vango porch to add on for longer trips.
*Some sort of backpacker tent for 2 which DH won't let me get rid of.

We are after either a trailer tent, or possibly a bigger frame tent when we win the lottery save very hard.

3rdnparty · 07/07/2012 09:43

3 of us
2/3 man vango - pre ds
4 vango oregon - hardly used lend to friends who have no tent on sunny weekends only, never great but works!
5 man outwell virginia - our weekend/short trip - i wanted a decathlon til saw how wobbly they are in the wind and my complete inability to pack pop ups !
gelert 2 man pop up - play tent stays up most of the time as unable to pack the bloody thing.....
bear lake 4 - lovely lovely tent but heavy n slow use generally for week or more...

have owned also nevada m, monty 6 , and a vis a vis outwell cant remember the name plus a couple of others..........Blush took a while to get the right combination- usually we camp a lot over the summer....not this year- however really fancy a bell tent but have no justification at all!

ChippyMinton · 07/07/2012 21:21

I'm slowly building up a collection of Quechua pop-ups for maximum versatility.
XXL IIII for weekends
Air III as a pup tent next to the caravan in south of france and for DS1 & 2 on longer trips with the bigger tent

Also have a cheapy Argos teepee for the garden
And DH has a lightweight tent for biking trips that no-one is allowed to touch! Seems a little unfair when he's taken my weekender to the mudbath at Silverstone SadGrin

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 11/07/2012 21:21

Decathlon xxl iiii for on my own with dh or dcs
Kampa frinton 4 plus awning for weekends
Outwell Florida 6 plus awning for 1 week plus camps
Wynnster leisure shelter for wet camps with the 2 small tents

blackteaplease · 11/07/2012 21:30

We have 3

a tiny mountain tent from Katmadhu - spent many a holiday in it pre dc, dh takes it on solo trips

a cheapy argos 3 man tent for festivals

An outwell Vermont LP which we bought as an upgrade this year and haven't taken out yet due to rain!

Just given away a Vango 5 man tent which was fine for two adults and up to 2dc.

If there are 4 of you plus a dog, you are going to need a fairly sizeable 2nd tent. Why not just stick with the one you have. Alternatively the vango marista is fairly cheap at go outdoors.

What a difference a fortnight makes! Now have....

Royal Pescara 8 & sun canopy- will be our longer stay tent (not used it yet, got it a fortnight ago)
Outwell Montana 4 & canopy - shorter stay tent
Quechua 4 man pop up, 3 man pop up (used as sun shade!) & 2 man pop up (kids play tent for Lego in garden!) - never yet slept in!
Vango 5 man Juno teepee - also fortnight old. Might be a play tent on multi family holidays
Outwell Maine - just won on EBay - new multi family camping dining tent
ASDA gazebo with sides
Outdoor Revolution utility tent

Just sold:
Sunncamp Stratus 8 - not slept in since summer 2008, was only being used as a dining tent but was too fussy to put up
Sunncamp Shadow 800 & Verano DL Porch - fed up of sep porch so replaced with Royal Pescara

And new for mid-July:
Royal Dayroom - big square utility / day tent
Quechua Base Seconds 4.2 pop-up

Am hoping newest purchases will replace Montana as w/e tent setup. We'll prob use the popup twinned with the dayroom. And the dayroom might also become a dining tent for bigger groups rendering (still uncollected, picking up today!) Outwell Maine unnecessary!!

THisisyesterday - and t'other owner of the Quechua family 4.1, what do you think of it? I am shopping about for a second tent and had considered:
Outwell Fusion 400 (but one review said it was a nightmare to pack up)
Vango Zeal 400 (but another review said the seams on Vangos weren't that great)
Quechua XXL IIII (But at £130 a bit steep for a weekend tent and not sure it's as pop up as it looks - the videos make it look like origami A-level is required)
Coleman Instant Tourer 4 (which I've seen somewhere for £99, but which looks a bit like a toilet tent and some reviews suggest that you're b*ggered if the pole gets bent).

I hadn't considered the 4.1 - I thought it just looked a bit, well, lop-sided and feeble. But is it actually quite good?! Or should I avoid?
Owners of other tents, advice gratefully received.

(Background: we have an Outwell Oakland that is fab for 4 for a week away, but weight a ton and I wouldn't be able to set up on my own with the kids. I would like something light, durable, easy to pitch (technically inept) and definitely for under £130. Ideally room for 4 for 1-2 nights, as we might then use it for more spontaneous trips).

All advice, recommendations and ideas gratefully received. (And apologies if this is a bit of a thread-hi-jack!)
