Green Man festival camping

Has anyone camped on the festival site the week before the festival? Please tell me it's a nice place! What is there to see and do in the locality? Anything novice campers should know?

We are taking the children to their first festival too so decided to camp the week before and make it our holiday - having second thoughts though with the shocking weather!!

The estate is beautiful in the most gorgeous valley. I don't know what it's like during the festival but I love it the rest of the year.

Lots of walking in the area. Little places like Crickhowell though not much there tbf.

I'd go to Brecon one day, hire bikes near Theatr Brycheiniog and cycle down the Brecon Monmouth canal.

you can also get to Big pit from there, which is worth visiting.

Is Merthyr too far? Merthyr itself is not somewhere you would visit but Cyfarthfa Castle has a funny little museum which is worth doing on a rainy day, if you like quirky places.

Yes, I have! it is nice, lovely walks. Weather can be really shite though. Does your tent have porch space? make sure you keep the wet stuff in there. The local town is good for food shopping and a potter. To be honest there is not much to 'do' if you like frantic sight-seeing, but if you like walking and exploring you should be fine. Beautiful setting, people return there year after year and my dc have made lots of friends there, they tend to go off and play football. Oh, and there is a campfire bit, a bar and music on the campsite. I am going this year but only for festival. Once festival starts you can shelter fro the elements in the big tents in the children's area, also there is a little cinema ... you will enjoy it. Oh, and make the most of the shower facilities before the festival people arrive, from the Thurs the site really starts filling up! take a spare loo roll
and a torch
