Have had Outwell carpets before, so made the assumption that it would be just as comfortable, like a nice thick picnic blanket shaped to the living area.

It turns out to be a lot thinner, more like material over a tarp.

We loved playing board games in our snug Nevada L, really comfortable all sat on the floor with the rain outside (Quite often in this bloody weather)

Feeling gutted that we have upgraded (AND spent a lot of money) and its a lot less luxurious! PAH!

Oh that doesn't sound very good. I love our Royal carpet, as you say it's nice to be able to sprawl on the floor. You should tell them.

Just copied this message to them!

This is the response from Outwell

Dear Andrea,

Thank you for your e-mail.

There is solid reason to why we have made the hairs shorter on the carpets, this is because we are concerned about the living environment, and it appeared to us that the old carpets stored too much dirt/bacteria. The quality is equal/better, but you are right you might lose some insulation to this. In this decision we regarded living environment as a comfort too, we hope you can relate to this decision.

We wish you a nice day.

Yours sincerely / Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Med venlig hilsen

Team Outwell

So not because they are cheaper for them to make then?

Sounds like cost cutting to me.

I've never seen anyone on here or the uk camping forum complain about dirt on their carpet fibres. People use a dustpan and brush.

Well I won't bother buying one now then. Don't sound worth it at all.

I bought one recently (ie haven't used yet) for our 2011 Montana. It was a bit of a whim decision as the sage carpets that fit are barely available anymore (due to the change in tent designs this year) so thought I'd get it while I could. I was surprised when I first got it out of the box that something that was 'luxurious under foot' (a common description I'd seen) could roll up so small. But you are right, it is like an old worn sheet on some pvc. Really unimpressive.

At the moment I'm trying to get it outside and offgassing whenever there is a clear day as the pvc stench is awful. We're off camping in just over a week, and wont be taking it if it still smells like this as it would be revolting in an enclosed space. DH was sneezing constantly when he came home to it half opened in the house. Will have to go for a look in the garage, but have a feeling I got ruthless with boxes for the paper recycling, so wont be able to return it. May be appearing on ebay soon!

Oh and this was the Outwell response when I asked about the smell:

The smell is unfortunately a bi-product of us trying to achieve some environmental goals of less pollution etc, there is nothing harmful about the smell but perhaps a sponge and some hot soapy water can take the smell for you.

Must ask them to expand on how it ties in to their environmental goals....

Can you find a carpet for another tent that would fit?
Or sew a few picnic rugs together ?
Or did you want it to match?
