Help ! enraged dh coolbox confusion re French campsite

So..... I was responsible for booking French campsite.... Dh agreed on choice on proviso that we could rent a fridge at said site. Have just received email saying no fridges available. But coolbox available in sanitary area. Dh cross that I have messed up. I'm confused..... What the hell do they mean? Why would (a non electric) coolbox be in the sanitary block (assume thats what they mean). Anyone come across a setup like this?

Is he from the 1950s? Hit him with your icey tek and sit and drink the delicious cool gin in a tin contained therein.

Gigondas · 23/06/2012 21:34

Have you got electric points in your site? If so its not expensive to buy a cool bag/box even if it is a small one for milk or beer .

hettie · 23/06/2012 21:38

Oh god, have painted a picture of Neanderthal man haven't i! He's a lovely, reasonable man really! No idea why this has caused so much grief.
Sadly we don't own an icey-tec (would it even cope with ambient temps in the 20's?)... Have emailed site, but between my ropey French and their confusing descriptions, I'm not sure we'll get any classification of what the hell they mean....

I think that what you get is a thing like a locker, dont know if it is non electric though.

Tomjoules · 23/06/2012 23:23

Ah bless ya het tie!

Slubber is the one you need to talk to about icey teks, she prepped and packed hers correctly and it lasted ages in steamy bavaria.

duchesse · 23/06/2012 23:49

I can't help with Neanderthal man but can provide translation help if you need!

hettie · 24/06/2012 07:01

Thanks duchesse, will await reply and see if I can make sense, if not will post here!
Locker makes sense...... (ponders if I can use this to convince dh of merits of icey-tec)

A friend of mine camped in France last year for 2 weeks. She said it was cheaper to buy a small fridge when they got there rather than rent one, and when they were leaving they passed it on to a family that had just arrived. Maybe worth doing a bit of research to see if that's possible for you?

ReportMeNow · 25/06/2012 22:48

Leave the bastard

or

Could you buy one of these and pack stuff in it so it doesn't take up too much usable space in the car?

moondog · 25/06/2012 22:49

I am og no help but what a gloriously surreal thread title. Grin

hettie · 26/06/2012 13:11

so (because I know you've all been waiting with baited breath...). After some 'interesting' email discussions.... we have been told that we have a fridge space/locker reserved for us in the communal area.
DH seems to be fine with this (don't know what came over him...maybe it was the threat of warm beer on his hols Hmm) and full happiness has been restored to the hettie household
Has got me thinking about coolbox options for next year though......
