hello. we have decided to go to venice for a few days and then florence (will be mid to late august). We are flying to venice and then train to florence and then thought it might be nice to have 5 or 6 nights in a campsite south of florence so the children can have relax in a pool (i will be recovering from an op so wont be in the pool - but will be lying down beside it with a long drink and a good book).

We think that after seeing venice and florence we wont want to do a lot of sightseeing so don't really want to hire a car. Does anybody have any recommendations of decent campsite which is acccessible without car. We would like to get off campsite occasionally so bus service or village in walking distance is essential really. any experts ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. I am wanting to get flights sorted asap. We will just fly back from the airport nearest to wherever we end up. Cheers. Kate.

thanks - i have looked up eurocamp but cant find a campsite called lignano - will keep looking,

We fancy a tent actually. We have done tents and mobile homes in france but i do like the sense of the outdoors when staying in a tent - although like the shower in a mobile home. i am looking at selectcamp as a friend has booked with them in spain and they have tents on some sites with built in bathrooms -now that is GLAMPING Grin. Any other experts would be pleased to hear from you. Katie

There's a fantastic if very large campsite called Norcenni Girasole near Figline Valdarno. Not far from Florence but you'd need to google to see if there is a local bus from outside the campsite. Figline is a mile or two down the road, although there will deffo be transport from there to Florence.

thanks for that - funnily enough I was looking at norcenne girasole last night and all reviews looked fab for it. I think that could be the one but as you say I just need to see about transport. We could rent a car but I dont think we will want to do too much when on campsite and hate to pay hire fees and then have car sitting there all the times. This is my job for the weekend to get this sorted. thanks again.
