Brittany campsites - any recommendations?

Just wondered about any Mumsnetter thoughts on this. I am looking for the possibly nonexistent campsite that is reasonably close to the sea, possibly by a lake/river instead of actually on the coast, has a good water complex etc, where there's a good chance of ds meeting other kids (he's 8) but also the possibility of booking a quiet pitch as dh won't cope with lots of togetherness with other families.

I have some that tick all the boxes bar the one where your DH wants to be away from other familiesSmile IME the sites with the good water complexes and other stuff are usually the bigger ones and are busy. However we have never had any problems with noisy families.
Do you want southern or northern Brittany?

joanofarchitrave · 17/06/2012 18:26

I'm leaning towards south because my sister really loves Concarneau, but could go either way, I haven't been to Brittany since I was a child. I have a vague feeling the weather would be better in the south?

Maybe?! I LOVE southern Brittany, it like unspoiled CornwallSmile

we have been to this site many times - right on the cliffs above the beach, and with our all-time fav beach a 10min drive away. It is not too far from Concarneau.

this campsite is about half an hour inland from there, with all sorts of sporty activities to do.

If you want more reliably warmer weather, then Carnac is popular. We went to this one which has a lot going on but is pretty busy.
The castels campsites are all good quality sites

(so what is your favourite beach?? or is it a deadly secret?)

It's not a deadly secret - if you decide to go to that part, I'll PM you the detailsWink We love it because it is sandy, has big rocks to climb on, rock pools, a massive rock to jump off into the sea and is a small cove with no shops nearby, but a couple of cafes within near walking distance!

Larmor Plage near Lorient is a lovely beach, on the south coast of brittany. Went a few weeks ago. Nice places to eat for lunch but not in the early evening.
