Roof box / bag / something recommendatoond

we've got a honda jazz, two children and a new bell tent

We need more storage

I've been looking at roof boxes and though 'great fir £150 our problem us sorted' but having looked more closely it appears that we will also need roof bars, footings (?) fixings (£) and to spend another £100.

£250 fir a roof box plus £450 for the tent plus £200 on all the other camping stuff and my cheap holiday theory is looking a bit lame

Has anyone got any cheaper storage solutions

What about a roof bag? Looks like they still need the rails etc but are cheaper

I don't know. Help me please

Have a google around, bug there are companies that will hire you a roof box for your car at a fraction of the cost of buying your own.

Towbar and very small trailer?

FormerCityDweller · 04/06/2012 10:56

There was something recommended on here last year which was a box that attached to the boot but wasn't a trailer. They had a FB page which I can't find and I have tries googling but can't remember what it was called so I'm not getting very far.

I'd love one though. If anyone remember what they're called you might like one too Smile

Bigger car?? I know this might seem drastic, but will possibly be a cost saver in the future?

We have a camper van so can pack it from to ceiling and go!! We still have a big roof cradle though!!Blush

Oh and check eBay for the foot fitting kits for your car, we got ours for £15 instead of £135 Smile

Fiamma do the boot boxes which attach to the cycle racks, more expensive than roof boxes though IIRC Sad

Hi, Same prob here - we have down-sized both our cars (justified it by saying it saved money to have smaller cars for every day and then we could hire a big one if we needed it, but now of course can't justify the extra ££ of hiring a bigger one!)

We are taking 2 very small cars (one for the people, one for the tent & all stuff) but still struggling to fit in what we used to put in the boot of MPV + roofbox! DH won't buy roof bars for small car so our only solution is to take a bit less stuff (as if we normally fill the car with non-essentials!) Confused

I'm just hoping we have room for a couple of extra blankets though.... brrrrrrrr!

Oh and Happy Jubilee camping to you all Crown coz its my only opportunity to use the crown! x

It's a company car so can't have a tow bar or get a bigger one

That box thing was a tail crate or somethingorother. I watched the thread excitedly then it seemed to go tits up and the company disappeared

I might have to sell the baby spring for a box plus the bits afterAll

am I right though that the components are footings + bars + box with fittings and they all come separately ?

Happy julbillrr Crown
to. You too

I've been looking at these

Gymbob · 04/06/2012 17:58

Uh oh, you sound like how we started.

We have an estate, not big enough, got roof box, not big enough, got trailer, not big enough, got side extensions for trailer, just big enough Grin

Righteousdude · 04/06/2012 21:03

We've just got a roof bag, on the recommendation from a friend, and will be trying it out this weekend.

We've got one that fits to roof bars (which fit to the roof rails) but theirs has soft straps that work on their a non-rail little car.

Not sure what make theirs is but I'll see if I can find a link. They've used theirs for quite a few camping trips and love it.
