I'm going round in circles finding a quiet, waterside site in central france....

We are on our way to Lot from Calais, so, my wish list is. Quiet. Spacious shaded sites. Then swimming for cooling off on site whether its pool, lake, river or sea and ideally..a forest with bike hire and somewhere to go to market. If it were in spit of the sea that would be good.
Hahaha! Make it so!

This place is lovely, but details give no justice to it

It says swimming pool 200m, but is a few steps away. A short

Can't recommend a site, but we had some great holidays in the Tarn region. Is that too far south?

I think Tours is too far as we want to get there with small children without too much stress. I was looking at Hutopia in Lac du Rille. They make you bbq with your neighbours at bivouacs though which fills me with dread...
The other link took me to a site that was pretty bare - I am not booking anywhere where I can't see the whites of the eyes of the owners! Thanks for the replies though.

That Huttopia site is near Tours so is it not too far? I had planned to stay at the Versailles Huttopia overnight en route from Calais to the Dordogne, until I read on Trip Advisor about how they pack the tents in. You seem to pay a lot of money for their 'ethos' too...

We are now going to stay here.

Don't think it's walking distance to anything, but there's a lake and a restaurant.

We're only staying for one night so not so bothered about it being brilliant. I will be there next week so can update when I get back at the end of June.

Oooh Camping de Santrop? That looks just the ticket. Only thing missing is a heated pool but - it's August, I can imagine running into that lake.
Bike hire, bbqs allowed all good - whatever you do don't tell me its rubbish at the end of June!

This might suit www.forestviewleisurebreaks.co.uk; 5 hours from Calais in the middle of a huge forest-near Chartres. We're there on saturday and sunday on the way to Chenonceaux so I will report back...
