DS will be one in June and we hope to go camping for a week in July. DH and I have camped a lot but its all been of a mountaineering style, ie light and easy carried. All our kit is minimal and including our tent. We have a really nice Mountain Hardwear expedition style tent but its cosy just with the two of us and I dont think its going to work with the baby and two dogs. Oh how times have changed.
I need recomendations of a tent for lowland camping, mostly Ireland so needs to be v waterproof and able to stay up in a bit of a breeze.
Also whats the best sleeping set up for a baby? We currently use 3/4 thermarests and sleeping bags.

In terms of layout I would get one that claims to sleep 5, maybe 6, and has a bedroom that can either be one big space - for while your baby is a baby, and can be divided into 2 when s/he gets a bit older. And a sizable living area for the dogs. And I would make sure that the living area also has a SIG / bathtub style so that water doesn't run in from wet ground in rain.

Something like this or for a bigger tent this Both have 3000 hh which is v top quality waterproofing, don't go for less, and my Vango tent has quite lightweigt poles and bends and leans a lot in high winds but has been fine.

Or are you wanting a more backpacking / mountaineering style of tent for all of you? There's so much to DO with little ones, I need to be able to stand up in a tent these days!

I think we are going to put the mountaineering on the back burner for a while. So now it will be about spending time outdoors, fishing, walking, swimming etc but from a proper campsite. I have had vango tents before (little ones) and really liked them so I will check these out.
What the normal way to sleep? All together on an air bed? I was thinking DS and I on an airbed and DH on a single mattress beside

Best way I found was to put baby in a travel cot with a sheepskin underneath, sleeping in a growbag and extra blankets on top as needed. The travel cot also acts as a playpen during the day - especially useful when you're trying to put the tent up or cook, and unable to watch him closely.

When DS was very small, he slept in the moses basket next to my airbed.

At this age I would want to have the baby in the room with me, as there would have still been a good chance of night waking.

Airbeds are much colder than self-inflating mattresses.
