ChippyMinton, ChippyMinton!
Phew...Liberated! In the excitement of the new 2 seconds XXL 1111 having arrived DS and I decided to clear a big space and put it up in our loft ext bedroom. All great - it'll be just what we need.

Then too late I find that to fold it up I have to tip the whole thing on it's side - no space, AND the official Quechua video seems to have disappeared from their site. Luckily DS crawled out from underneath and found some logical Dutch people on YouTube who managed the instructions first time, and after about 16 attempts we managed to get it stuffed back in.

It will be a good tent. But it will take time to master that figure of 8 manouvre.

I completely sympathise - treat it like a naughty toddler - be firm and fold like you really mean it Grin

at least you aren't on a wet campsite where the bottom off the tent gets covered in wet grass and you get filthy putting it away. Rouen Camping Le Bel Air circa August 2010 after 24 hrs solid rain.......

I find about an hour and a lot of swearing usually does the trick.

Penis and bollocks rings a bell.

I can do it when practising in the garden no problem. All goes to pot on a campsite.

I swear to God I left part of my soul and a portion of my sanity on a Cambridge campsite. Some nights I wake screaming "FOOOOOLD YOU BASTARD SHIT".

Blu · 30/04/2012 20:31

I have aquired this tent as a swift and easy alternative to my bigger non-pop-up!

What works for me is imagining it is a very large one of those nylon frisbees. Flatten into one segment size, twist into figure of 8 and fold in half.

And practice, a lot, before attempting in front of hundreds of seasoned campers public.

Blu · 01/05/2012 12:19

We were OK with it as far as the figure of eight, and then I was sure I would snap the poles, I couldn't get the knack of folding it in on itself.

yes, we will practice somewhere outdoors and private before unleashing ourselves as Carry On Camping, Comedy WithInTent!

And take it from me - putting up a 4 person tent in your average-semi-house spare room is not a good idea.

Oh Blu, I have just found this! Did you manage?

I'm just back from a weekender with my XXL, and it was FAB.
When I arrived all the scout leaders were hanging around drinking tea and watching, but luckily the tent went up without a snag.

This morning, one of them popped over and took on the challenge of folding, and I have to say, did a flawless job! All I did was hold the instructions where he could see them as he wrestled the beast in to submission Grin

Mind you, as it was a bit damp, I'm going release the beast in the garage, to dry...

Blu · 08/05/2012 16:17

We managed - not sure how, I can't make head nor tail of the instructions!

I'm v pleased to hear that your tent served you well.

make a cock and balls and straddle it. Do Not Twist.

with that as your mantra you can't go far wrong.

chipmonkey · 08/05/2012 23:23

Aitch, thank you! Ds2 just read your post and is Shock at the way people who are supposed to be nice Mummies talk!Grin

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 09/05/2012 00:59

tell him he'll thank me if he's ever trying to pop down a pop up...

chipmonkey · 09/05/2012 10:00

Oh, he has been there, Aitch! Grin Our boys have a Quechua 2 man pop up for when they have Tae Kwon Do camping trips and the like.

Blu · 09/05/2012 10:28

Thank you for that Aitch.

Campers across the SE will be agog, no doubt, as I remind DP of this in hearty tones.

arf. seriously, the do not twist is essential, that's what always fucks me up. it seems so counter-intuitive.
