dd (7) and I are going on a sun deal in June and for the 1st time we have been allocated a tent. I have never been keen on the idea of camping tbh but I know I should at least try it, even though, as it turns out it isn't a bargain as the price at the mo is actually a fraction less Hmm

There is only dd and I and i'm concerned a) about security and b) night loo trips and if i'm honest the whole bathroom thing. gawd I sound precious don't I? Grin

I must confess to it perhaps being slightly more exiting in that the resort is twixt Naples and Rome by the sea so should be better weather at least.

Please tell me it'll be a blast and i'll never look back or should I pay for an upgrade (i've tried) but may try harder.

tia

You will love it. I had nerves around the full toilet thing and then I went twice last year and I'm converted.

YEs the nights can be uncomfortable if your cold but trust me, when you are eating bacon butties on a camp fire at 6am (I mean, really>! Who the F does that in real life?! 6AM>!) you will sit there, breathe out and feel completely chilled.

oh and pack wet wipes, forget the make up, dress comfy not trendy - everyone is the same.

Toilets are normally ok. A she wee is a marvelous invention and a bucket for overnight to save horrible trips if you are scared of dark.

Security wise - you feel surprisingly safe. I don't know why. You just do.

Well, you won't be cold in Italy, and I doubt you'll have a campfire, either!
Campsites are very safe places, extremely friendly, lots of people helping each other. And it's very cosy in a tent.

Take mosquito repellant!

Personally I can't stand traipsing to the toilet block in the middle of the night and wee behind the tent in the hedge, or in a plastic bucket (a child's beach bucket is fine) and then carry it to the toilets in a plastic carrier bag in the morning. Oh, god, should I have changed my posting name to post that?

Just think 'casual' - casual clothes, casual meals, slow pace.

I've camped in Yorkshire Dales on my own and I am a little lady. I felt fine. Sure you will do and just get a bucket for night time wees.

We are allowed buckets! WHY has no one told me this before? Grin

DelGirl · 24/04/2012 08:58

ok, well you've eased my mind a little. I shall try and invest in a she wee before I go or a bucket failing that. Yes, I intend on being casual, which is my default look anyhow Grin thanks all
