can someone please help me remember the 'thing' that you can sign up to which automatically lets you through the tolls roads and charges back to your credit card?

Just looked on that link - don't forget to get your breathalyser kit Shock

kiwibella · 15/04/2012 16:22

thanks, CM.

We'll be back by the 1st of July so should be ok without a breathalyser test. Strange thing to need in the car!!

Glad I saw this (re breathalyser) also good to know about speed cameras and sat navs

kiwibella · 19/04/2012 17:41

Do you think that the tag is worth it? Do you have to pay an upfront fee first to have it activated?

mm something else to consider, although I've never queued for a toll, even with the trailer so may be not......

ifeelloved · 19/04/2012 18:39

It's now illegal to have a sat nav that identifies speed cameras.

Lucycat · 19/04/2012 18:54

So do I have to try and work out how to turn that function off as well as trying to use it to find French campsites?!!

ifeelloved · 19/04/2012 22:09

Lol!

I knew about the breathalyser (a couple of quid from amazon) and you should have two so that if one is used you still have another in case the police stop you.
I didn't know about the speed camera thing. I think our sat nav has speed limits programmed into it and lets you know if your speeding. It must also have the location of fixed cameras programmed in but it doesn't detect them. Would that be okay do we think?

loubielou31 · 20/04/2012 13:30

The AA explain it here. I've understood it to mean that if it tells you the speed limit that's fine but if it gives you the position / likely position of speed cameras then that won't be fine. Very sneaky about putting new cameras but giving no warnings.
I also didn't know that under 10s are not supposed to travel in the front seats. (although I refuse to give up the front seat so it's never been an issue.)

Had another look, the breathalizer is enforced from November so will be ok. And thinking about it I think the satnav / camera thing was always that way Blush
