buying second hand

dh and I are watching several tents on ebay, and checking uk campsite, google etc in the hope of purchasing a larger family tent. We sort of know what we want.

My question really is about the logistics once you have agreed to purchase. If you have sold second-hand before, did you just hand the tent over when you exchanged cash... or would you expect to erect it so the purchasers can check it over... or just pull it out and have a good look?

I've bought a couple of times second hand and have just taken a chance that all's ok - although both times I bought through a company selling on ebay rather than a private seller, so there was an opportunity to return the tent within a certain time if there were any problems with it.

There's a limit to how much I'd pay for a second hand tent though. That way if it's not in great condition I won't feel too ripped off.
