Camping in France: can we rent a tent there?

So we are talking about going away camping in France this summer, probably in the Alps.
We have a tent BUT it is big and heavy so we are wondering about renting a tent there. (We might drive there or take the plane and then rent a car, not decided yet)

Is that even possible?

What about keycamp/eurocamp?

issyocean · 09/04/2012 13:46

keycamp

lol not if you are tied to school holidays it's not!

We went with Canvas Holiday. Brilliant if you've got DC. Everything is there upon arrival, tent, beds, kitchen gear, sun loungers, tables, chairs etc. You can pay extra for bedding too.

Seasonal prices, like all holidays tbh.

We stayed on a Camping Indigo site last year. These are fab sites with a very laid back feel and they have several around France.
Dotted amongst the touring pitches they had some pre erected cabanon tents and the hire charges seemed quite reasonable as they came fully equipped.

We've been with Keycamp last two years, was v good.
They give you a loyalty and an early booking discount which made the 2nd year far cheaper.

I realise this doesn't help you though. We were in Britanny which was cheaper from the brochure prices.

Check out flower campings. Glamping tents 5 nights for 7 out of high season so roughly eur180 a week during June. More during peak periods but if you can go late summer prices drop off after 25ish Aug.

Also check with campsites direct. A lot have their own tents for hire at less than keycamp prices. Bear in mind though that during peak period any rental is going to cost at least twice - more likely 3 times - the pitch cost.

Thank you all for the different solutions!

We had a good look with DH and discovered that actually the drive from Calais to the Alps where we want to go isn't that bad. no more than a full day.
So atm, the idea is to take the car over and drive there which means we will be able to take our tent.

It also looks like it will be much cheaper compared to the other options.
