Any recommendations for campsites in South Yorkshire?

I am trying to find a campsite to meet up with a friend at half term, I am in Newcastle, she is in London, so somewhere half way.... Between us we will have 5 DCs aged between 2 and 7, so somewhere family friendly with nearby things to do with the kids... any recommendations much appreciated.

Camping in South Yorkshire?? Are you insane?? (I grew up there, so I should know).

Seriously, I can't quite imagine camping around where I grew up but there must be some nice places around ... have you tried the UK campsite website?

Doesn't have to be South Yorkshire... just trying to think of somewhere in between to meet up Grin Was kind of thinking Peak District national Park...my geography is shit though! SOmewhere off the M1/A1 would be good though.
Will try UK campsite websites, I am a bit clueless though, as its been a while since I went camping, so thought the wisdom of MN might be a better place to start!

If you can come just a junction or two further down the m1 then may a recommend campsites near carsington water in Derbyshire. Also sites near Chatsworth house. Lots and lots of lovely places to stay, lots to do with children. A bit vague sorry but do look at the UKcampsite website there are loads of listings and you can read the reviews which will help you find the best site for your needs.
So search for sites in Derbyshire (as a resident of both counties I feel I am a fair judge!)

Clumber Park in Notts (literally a stones throw from the A1) has a campsite. It is run by Clumber, the National Trust, not the Caravan Site run by the Caravan Club.

Yes we saw it today! Definitely going to camp there this summer. Fab location

I agree with myhands (and so do mine, I noticed brown spots on them yesterday!) to expand your search to Derbyshire. Or Sherwood Forest which I think is Notts?

Thanks for the advice, we have booked in for camping at Clumber Park... will report back in a month!

We stayed here in Sherwood Forest. It was nice. We stayed without EHU, if you had EHU you were nearer the lake/toilets/showers/shop. The park wasn't great (our kids were 4 and 2) but it was handy for Sundown Adventureland, which the kids loved.

For something to do, just down the road from Clumber is Sherwood Pines, a Forestry Commission site with lovely bike trails (from easy family to serious and technical), a Go Ape thing and a really lovely adventure playground and picnic site. Think it's £4 parking all day.

Teversal is meant to be good - top notch wet room showers - and just off the M1. Crafty - we're off there this weekend. Quite like the idea that their weekend camping is midday Friday to 7pm Sunday so no having to get up and dash off.
