Who else is stupid enough to go camping this weekend?

Will it snow? We are going to Shropshire with friends. I'm kind of wishing I had not agreed to this. I couldn't even get an pitch with EHU. We have a lovely bell tent though so it will be nice to get it out.
Ideas on how to keep warm please!

Buy a small portable gas heater and carbon monoxide detector, use SENSIBLY in well ventilated area and never ever leave on overnight. I reckon an hour maximum with vents open in bell tent. This is the only alternative I can think of without EHU....of course there will be the advise to wrap up and run about BUT I really want to be able to sit down and relax a bit without having to wear all my clothes all the time and be constantly moving! I've gone ahead and bought one for this weekend!

We are - but we're going down south where the forecast is ok - and we do have electric.

Might be worth phoning the campsite to see if you can get an EHU as I am sure some people will be put off/not able to travel if there is snow/bad weather - even if you are just on a waiting list.

From my research alcohol seems to be the way forward. Either staying in the pub till you are so squiffy you fall asleep and don't notice the cold or as someone suggested baileys in coffee on another thread - but I am going for amaretto and hot chocolate!

humpdebump I have a CO detector so I could get that gas heater. They aren't cheap though! What is the difference to leaving your stove on with the CO detector?
TaffyandTeenyTaffy I'd thought about that. The site we are going to had EHU but would only let us have it if we booked for 4 days so I am hoping that if no-one else has booked, they will let us upgrade.

HEATER £20. Several others to choose from.
I think the black cat ones (£52) are safer in that they give out v minimal carbon monoxide.
Naked flame on stove, no guard, risk of fire is higher, I think the heaters chuck out more heat.

Thanks hump looks good. Very tempted. I'll have to find time tomorrow or Thursday to get it.

We are going camping this weekend and hopefully too far south for snow! Still packing the thermals and ski wear though Grin

We can have open fires at this campsite so hopefully that will keep us warm. Can't wait.

AllOverIt · 04/04/2012 07:30

We are too. Again, we're down south so it's not too bad.

harrietlichman · 04/04/2012 09:32

Us too - without EHU. I am packing fleecey pyjamas for all, fleece blankets for the beds, woolly hats for sleeping in (!) cooking a big stew to heat up on the first night (we have a campfire site) and bed socks! Would take more than a bit of icy, driving wintery showers to put us off!

Oh, and hot water bottles.

Happylander · 04/04/2012 13:45

Hotwater bottles yes I must remember them. Thanks for reminding me. I am so excited first camping trip of the year and first one trying to put new tent up plus first camping trip without ex!

ifeelloved · 10/04/2012 09:26

I went! Cold but fun, big fire at night, plenty of wine, sleeping bags, duvets and blankets. No problem Grin

harrietlichman · 10/04/2012 09:34

Me too! Was great - only really rained when we were packing up to leave (now have a very wet tent spread out over the garage!) but it was fab, really glad we went.

Migsy1 · 10/04/2012 20:24

We actually had a great time here www.greencaravanpark.co.uk/
It wasn't really cold at all although a campfire would have been good. I got some cheap sleeping bags from B&M stores to put over our regular ones. We were actually nice and toasty at night. I can't wait until my next trip next weekend with EHU in North Yorks.
