Anyone going to Camp Bestival in a bell tent?

I'm dithering over camping plus because I think it might reduce DH's stress levels (we have 4 under 4). But our 5m bell in theory would require 2 pitches which starts to get expensive because our guy ropes would cross onto neighbouring pitches. Don't know if this would be ok or not.
I phoned ticketline who reckoned that 1 would be fine but the official cb line is that you need 2 pitches greedy buggers
Anyone else in the same situation?

We are, and camping plus all the way! Last year it was a total nightmare, we arrived at noon on Thursday, all the flat space was gone. It was like campi g on a mountain, and we walked half a mile three times with a trug that kept toppling over and three bored kids to get all our stuff there. Never again! My dh trades there so I will be unpacking on my own, hence camping plus being a must.

I'd really like a pre erected tent too! It's a great festival though.

We fit on one pitch btw, 5metre bell with bunting galore!

Pitch sizes are much smaller this year though. Took our bell last year and had the guys encroached on our neighbours plot they would definitely not have been best pleased. As the pitch is 5m it would mean your tent would be taking up all of your pitch anyway so the guys would have to take up a fair amount of space that your neighbours may not necessarily have. The plots are all clearly marked.

We had to buy two for this reason as have our friends.

I should add that the pitches are cheaper than last year.

Quick question, how much wider do the guy ropes make it? If you had a 4mm Bell tent would that fit?

chipmonkey · 02/04/2012 13:31

ffs, 4m not 4mm! That would be one small tent!

ladyandthechocolate · 03/04/2012 11:38

We have booked two pitches, didn't want to risk it. I would imagine a 4m bell would probably be ok (as would a 4mm one!).

chipmonkey You may be okay, but I would buy two if you can possibly manage it. Your tent would be uncomfortably close to your neighbours (50cm away from their pitch) which is what everyone is trying to avoid by paying extra for designated pitches in Camping Plus.

Your guys would still be in both of your neighbours plots so you would have to cross fingers to have understanding folks on either side.

You could ask for an end plot (which is what we do anyway) which would give you far more leeway. You could pitch to one side if your only set of neighbours didn't seem keen.

Ensuring as good a night's sleep as possible at a festival, especially with children, is a priority. You'll find if you are pitched right up against another tent the sound really carries. Pretty uncomfortable all round.

wine, I don't actually have oneBlush and have just bought a big family tent so think dh would be a bit Hmm if I mentioned buying a bell tent as well! I was thinking more of future festivals to give me some time to talk him round as the family tent is huuuuuge and probably not ideal for festivals.

winefairy · 06/04/2012 11:51

Ahhh. I see, chipmonkey.

You might be able to talk him into a 4mm one Grin

On the subject, can I just say I would always try to get the 5m belltent as it feels much roomier than the 4m inside. More head height. The difference in footprint and weight and everything else is fairly negligible. Worth the upgrade.

But you'll enjoy Camp Bestival in any tent!

The words Camp Bestival and Bell Tent make me uber jealous.
