Base Seconds owners - please come and tell me what I need <offers cake>

Thank you Smile

Have got several different trips planned this summer, which, to be honest, I could happily have a different tent for each outing.

But putting my sensible hat on, I reckon a combination of Quechua pop-ups would probably give us the most flexibility. I could use the 2 Seconds on their own, and add a Base when necessary.

What do you have, and would you recommend it?

Oh, help yourself to cake - coffee & walnut traybake, Victoria sponge with lemon curd & cream filling or cherry & choc-chip muffins, and Brew

I Want One. They sound great.

ChippyMinton · 14/03/2012 18:21

The cakes or the pop-up tents? Grin

I have to go out now, but will be back later.

Ooh cake!!!! I don't have one. I'm just here for cake, amd to say hello!

swampster · 14/03/2012 18:47

Wouldn't say no to coffee & walnut traybake but I really fancy a pop-up tent. I'm not the world's greatest camper and we have to hire a car when we go anywhere so probably won't be getting one. I'm currently eyeing up the small pop-ups for small boys in the garden though.

Hello SeaShells, have one of these Brew with your cake.

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 14/03/2012 18:56

Brew thank you swampster :)
I am now the proud owner of a popup bell tent. Well, almost pop up. Compared to my other tent it is!

swampster · 14/03/2012 19:31

I would like to see pictures of the Base Seconds connected to the living area. [tent porn]

jamaisjedors · 14/03/2012 20:20

Lots of piccies here www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/p/Quechua-Base-Seconds/520

For Decathlon lovers there are new tents out this year for the heat www.decathlon.fr/tente-2-seconds-fresh-iii-id_8210340.html

and www.decathlon.fr/tente-2-sec-xxl4-illumin-fresh-id_8205999.html
with lights and a star-gazing roof.

In soon apparantly...

ChippyMinton · 14/03/2012 20:45

Thanks for the links jamais, I'll have a browse. Didn't appreciate that the Base was so spacious. Does anyone know if all the Seconds can link to the Base. I was thinking the 3-4 bedders would be more practical.

Swampster, if you like tentporn, did you see slubber's thread the other day featuring norwegian man in the woods?

Seashells - I have an argos teepee which is also practically pop-up. Sadly the pole in the centre renders it useless for anyone but the DC. and there's no SIG so sometimes they slide out under the mudwall on their SIMS in the night Grin

jamaisjedors · 14/03/2012 20:48

I think all the seconds should join up to the base. The only thing that worries me about that kind or arrangement is the number of zips to undo to get out for a wee in the night as you have to go out through the base.

I think there are 2 bases - or even 3, one with no groundsheet, one WITH (full) and an XL which looks big enough to have a party in!

swampster · 14/03/2012 21:16

"...new tents out this year for the heat", jamais, that's this tent. I just bought one. Blush

I saw no Norwegian man in the woods, Chippy. Do I need to find one?

ChippyMinton · 14/03/2012 21:30

Here he is

I am tempted by the XL IIII

OP posts:
swampster · 14/03/2012 21:43

Hmmm - tent didn't do it for me but the woodburning stove did. There you go, I am no camper, I like my home comforts too much!

swampster · 14/03/2012 21:48

And I like that XL IIII very much and it is such a good price at the moment. But I'm planning on taking my smaller one on a plane in the summer and it weighs under 5 kilos. Boys can sleep in it but I'll be indoors.

ChippyMinton · 14/03/2012 21:57

Where are you off to?
I'm planning a trip to the South of France by train. We'll be pitching up next to my parents' caravan, so just need to take a small tent for that trip as some of us can sleep in the awning. Your tent looks good, with the vents.

Family holiday for my mum's 80th. My sister and my brother and their families and me and mine will be descending on her in Finland. House will be bursting at the seams. Tent will be my bolthole in the garden.

swampster · 14/03/2012 23:36

Oh, and a friend's cottage in Wales at Easter - boys can have a tent in the garden there too.

swampster · 14/03/2012 23:38

That XL IIII is 8 kilos which is a fair old bit to lug around on a train journey if you're also planning on taking clothes and children and stuff.

Blu · 15/03/2012 12:34

I think that XLlll looks fab. I might get one of those. I am camping so much in my own with DS and need soemthing quick and simple to put up and down.

Swampster - beware the little 'festival' single skin pop-ups. DS has one - the condensation is terrible - pools of water under his SIM ever morning, often with his sleeping bag trailed in it .I'm thinking of getting him a small fly sheet / inner tent tent instead, it's so bad.

Blu · 15/03/2012 12:35

8kg would be OK if you get one of those sets of wheels for loading your bags on, to create wheeled luggage. Everyone with own rucsac of clothes.

Blu · 15/03/2012 13:21

And, I really really like coffee and walnut cake.

swampster · 15/03/2012 13:32

I ordered the 2 seconds air III tent last night - waiting for it to arrive. It is little but so are the boys.

I would like a tiny festival pop-up for the beach though.

Searches for the [coffee] and [walnut cake] emoticons.

swampster · 15/03/2012 13:35

And Chippy, you MUST get the Base living area - I want to come stow away in it on your camping trip.

ChippyMinton · 15/03/2012 14:06

Sorry, confused you with the XL IIII. That would be for car camping, for 2 people, or for 4-5 people with a Base living area and a smaller pop-up. It's the smaller pop-up that I'd take on the train, for either me or 2 DC to sleep in. The air III might be just the thing.

Contemplating a trip to Decathlon on my day off tomorrow Grin

Surely it has GOT to be this lovely greenie for car camping?

swampster · 15/03/2012 14:34

Ah, I see, two people. It would be a leetle big but fabulous for two!
