Anyone been to Bedgebury or to Cloud Farm?

Cloud Farm looks beautifully but apparently gets very very busy in August, when we're planning to go with 4 or 5 other families. We like the whole campfire / no fixed pitched ethos and are looking for somewhere chilled and quiet.

Any thoughts on either of these? Thanks.

Hi, I went to Bedgebury last year, the weekend before the August bank hol. It was busy but not heaving - we were in Apple field (which is for families) but they had just opened up another field as it was getting a bit cramped - we managed to find ourselves a space in it but the other field looked just as nice, although slightly sloping and not as flat.

The place itself was lovely, v. chilled out and relaxing. Saturday they have local musicians playing in their big tipi and the local pub sets up a bar/kitchen if you don't want to cook - this was lovely and the DCs had a great time running round while we chilled with our wine.

We were only there 2 nights so didn't use the showers (went swimming on the way home) but they looked ok - no basins in the portakabins they were in, though, so teeth-cleaning had to be done in the washing up area or the loos. The loos in the fields are composting, which the DCs declared 'disgusting' and refused to use (they are fine but unlit so take a torch if visiting after dark!) - there are flush loos by the showers but they got very dirty very quickly and ran out of loo paper on Saturday night. Loads of hot water in the washing up areas and big sinks (all in a stable conversion so nice and dry). Also a family bathroom if your children don't do showers.

Nearby is the Bedgebury Pinetum which we loved, a brilliant day out with loads to do.

It's fairly peaceful at night, chatting around campfires, but we didn't see anyone patrolling so I'm not sure what would happen if there was a rowdy group.

We're hoping to go back this year :)

Brilliant lovecat - thanks so much for the response. We're booking it - big group of us. Will report back!

I went to cloud farm a couple of years ago and it is totally stunning.

We had terrible weather and the field got very muddy, several cars had to be pulled out with the owners tractor. We were oitched on a bit of a slope which made sleeping interesting, but I can honestly say it was one of the nest trips I've ever had.

The shop stocks loads of stuff and whilst someo of it is pricey, its cheaper than getting to the nearest shop (its in the middle of nowhere) and the cakes were to die for.

Laundry facilites, clean showers and loos, stables so the children went riding (well were lead around on a pony!) not sure if they still do that though.

I hope to be able to go back one day, just a bit far for us for a weekend really.

Is Cloud farm still open? I googled it but am a bit confused. Seems that its been linked to a campsite called doone valley holidays which has relocated to somewhere else.
