We are off to the Jura region of France in August. Booked with yelloh.

Planning a weekend in the north west in may, mil is coming with her boyfriend and we are taking dniece as well as our 3.

Plus a weekend in June for ds1 birthday, he will be taking a friend or 2.

Not booked the weekends yet as an undecided where to go.

Where are you off too?

A camping virgin here so somewhere local, but you all seem to like my local campsites.

muchostinky · 04/03/2012 09:32

I have booked two full weeks so far, one week in June to Fforest and a week in August to Thistledown. Thinking of have a few days just me and DP whilst DS is visiting his Dad in Spain over Easter - probably Nantcol for that one, if we can get in.

Can't wait! :o

muchostinky · 04/03/2012 09:33

That's Fforest fields by the way - I'm gonna blame the iPad for that

upapalmtree · 04/03/2012 14:43

we've got some weekends booked from May to July for the Inside Park in Dorset, Wilksworth Farm in Dorset, Chestnut Meadows in East Sussex and we'll do a week in August I think up at the Dower House in Thetford. Just had our big overseas trip for the year so I hope to do quite a few camps during the summer months

Oblomov · 04/03/2012 17:31

We only go to Dorset. where our caravan is stored. Have booked a few days for the may bank holiday( at the beginning of May) and end of May bank hol (which this year is quite into Jun) and a week in August.

Oblomov · 04/03/2012 17:35

Upapalmtree, we only go to the Inside Park. see my previous post. It is nice, isn't it?

cheerup · 04/03/2012 21:05

Easter - Beekse Bergen, the Netherlands, in a Eurocamp safari tent :) :) :)
May bank holiday - local camping for the weekend with camping virgin friends
June - Camping Le Prunay in the Loire + a night somewhere on the Baie de Somme
August - France somewhere (or maybe Austria??). Eurotunnel booked, destination changing daily according to my whims, today's hot favourite is L'hirondelle

happyhorse · 04/03/2012 22:07

Easter - St Margarets, Suffolk 4 nights
July - Wellington Country Park 4 nights
August - Greenacres, Somerset 7 nights
And probably a couple of nights at Sacrewell in May or June

MegBusset · 04/03/2012 22:56

We have only booked one weekend so far - June bank holiday at Kelling Heath (north Norfolk).

Want to squeeze in as many weekends as possible but I'm a fairweather camper and as last year our one prebooked weekend (in July) got curtailed by torrential rain, I think this year we'll just leave it til the week before and if the forecast looks OK, ring round for last-minute availability.

MamaPyjama · 07/03/2012 20:58

Jubilee Weekend in Dorset. Bet it tips it down.

Two weeks in August at the Grubhof in Austria in our bell tent, travelling on the Autozug (sleeping in bunks while our car is on a wagon behind us). We did this last year and it was a hit. So we're doing it again.

Couple of weekends in Norfolk planned but not booked.

jamaisjedors · 10/03/2012 17:40

We have booked our ferry to Corsica (we live in France) and will be camping there for 2 weeks.

Haven't booked anything yet (a lot of the sites won't take bookings). We will arrive at 7am on the overnight ferry and hopefully find somewhere beautiful - or I may panic and do a detailed itinerary for the whole 2 weeks all printed and spreadsheeted...

jamaisjedors · 10/03/2012 17:40

That's end of August btw...

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 10/03/2012 19:35

We're going to Warcombe Farm for the week of the Jubilee Bank Holiday.

Not been for a week for ages so I'm hoping that the weather is kind!

Will do some other weekends, more locally in South Wales.

Off to look at some of your links for other site ideas Grin

Lovecat · 13/03/2012 22:53

Easter weekend at Longthorns Farm

First May bank hol weekend at Lake Bala

Jubilee weekend at Nantcol Waterfalls

2 weeks in July in France, first week here so DD can finally get to do Eurodisney, second week at Le Pin Parasol for hopefully some sunshine and beach action.

All with own tent.

Not booked yet, but want to spend an August long weekend at Bedgebury, we went last year and it was awesome.

And as it appears I shall be made redundant in July, I am hoping to take advantage of being off for the whole Summer hols and DD and I will be having a few midweek trips ourselves, hopefully at least one at Britchcombe Farm to do some White Horse spotting and, if I'm feeling brave, here for the Stanley Spencer gallery.

Quenelle · 14/03/2012 14:37

Weather permitting a couple of nights at Sacrewell Farm at Easter.

Two weeks from Jubilee weekend at Domaine de Mathevies in the Dordogne. First long camping trip since I was little. I am SO excited.

Hopefully a few days/week at Red Shoot at the beginning of September.

And some other odd weekends whenever the weather looks good. I am really looking forward to camping this year.

MrsHeffley · 14/03/2012 16:28

Quenelle very Envy at your French trip.

We've booked 10 days in Cornwall-again! Dp says France is still too pricey this year(trying to keep costs down in order to do some long haul travel with the dc in the next year or 2). He thinks with ferry, petrol, tolls, the Euro it would be a lot more than Cornwall but I sooooo want to camp in France.

Is it that pricey-really????

jamaisjedors · 14/03/2012 19:13

France isn't pricey compared to Cornwall surely?

I've been looking up prices of campsites near Lyme Regis for this summer and the prices are really high I think compared to France.

We were at a "camping municipal" right by the beach last year and paid 180 euros for 4 of us for 11 nights.

I suppose it all adds up with the petrol and the crossing etc. though.

serin · 14/03/2012 21:30

We managed to spend nearly £2000 on a two week camping holiday to France last year for the 5 of us! Everything from food to activities seemed to be much more expensive than in previous years (or perhaps the kids are just consuming more).
So this year we are staying here!
Have booked; Harlech, Abersoch, Abersoch again! then two weeks in Cornwall so far.
We are also hoping for a couple of weekends in the lakes.

chicaguapa · 14/03/2012 22:40

All we have so far is a temporary holiday site near Salisbury for the Cuckoo Fair over the May bank holiday weekend and a week at Chateau des Marais for half term in June. Other than that it'll just be random temporary sites for weekends as we're going on a cruise in August which eats into the summer holidays.

Quenelle · 15/03/2012 12:15

Hi MrsHeffley. The campsite is much cheaper than eg Red Shoot, where we stayed in the New Forest last year. ?18 versus £27 per night for the same week. I think they are quite similar types of site so good for comparison (although the French one has a pool).

Food is definitely more expensive there at the moment so we intend to take the boring staples with us and just buy the delicious, local fresh stuff when we're there. We're going to France tomorrow for a long weekend so will note petrol prices.

Jamaisjedors, next year we want to go to Corsica so I'm interested to see what you have been posting about campsites lately. Which crossing are you doing?

Quenelle · 15/03/2012 12:17

Meant to say, prices also depend a lot on when you go. We're not restricted to school holidays yet so can travel in June. Dover - Calais with P&O is only costing £90.

jamaisjedors · 15/03/2012 18:17

quenelle We have booked with the SNCM (fingers crossed for no strikes!).

I booked it at the end of January, when the bookings had just opened. They were doing various offers, I think we got about 40% off.

We are travelling Tuesday to Tuesday, overnight. I think we are going out via Toulon-Bastia, and home Bastia-Marseille.

It's costing around 400? in all, including a cabin for the 4 of us both ways. I figured it was better to arrive early in the morning rather than late at night for a good spot on a campsite so we arrrive at 7am-ish.

If you go Saturday - Sat it's ridiculously expensive. I think it's cheaper in the daytime but then you have to sit on a boat all day (I was surprised at how long the crossings are). We figured we would have to pay for a night in a hotel if we got a morning crossing so we may as well spend the night on the boat.

We will have a long drive down from Normandy but will probably stay with friends/family on stopovers, set off on the Sunday (no lorries on the road).

I will do a full report back on campsites when we get back at the end of August.

Quenelle · 15/03/2012 19:27

Thanks for that very useful info jamais. I hope you have a great trip.
