Where are you going? Is it madness to consider taking DS somewhere in the tent?

We are planning too - north Wales - so any suggestions would be appreciated!

serin · 08/03/2012 00:04

We are off to Abersoch.

dotty2 · 08/03/2012 10:12

We're thinking about it but maybe see what the weather's like nearer the time. Been summer-only campers so far, so cold weather tips appreciated (liking the hot water bottles idea). zazas - we really enjoyed this site last summer. Simple facilities, but amazing views over sea and mountains: www.eisteddfa.co.uk/.

Have just arranged with a friend to go the second week of the Easter hols!

We have a fabulous campsite about 4 miles away so will go there for the first camp of the year.

I'm so excited, I nearly ordered an icey tek...I should just do it, shouldn't I. I've been looking at them for nearly a year Blush

mogs0 · 08/03/2012 21:42

Oops, just seen the icey tek thread...will wait for the MN discount!!

DesolationAngel · 09/03/2012 08:23

Finally booked a pitch, we are venturing to the North York Moors, bit giddy really Grin

mybabywakesupsinging · 10/03/2012 00:59

last easter we sat on the beach; dd went for her first camping trip at 5 months old and the 2 boys were so happy to get to the beach so early in the year.
It was cold at night (shivers as remembers very draughty breast feeding) Smile.
Can't go at Easter weekend this year but might be able to go the weekend after, if the weather OK. Maybe Wicksteed Park or similar if it is dry but not hot...
Dreading taking dd this year - far too mobile and far too little sense! I can hear myself already, "no, dd, we don't eat cowpats/Trangias/tent pegs".

AllOverIt · 01/04/2012 17:17

We're going to Weymouth with friends. It's going to be freeeeezing!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 01/04/2012 17:21

You do all realise we are expecting snow/slush/drastic temp drops this week dont' you?

realises she's getting old to give a shit about that

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 01/04/2012 17:21

Feel free to slip the apostrophe back in where it should be Grin

Grockle · 01/04/2012 19:22

Yeah, I've paid £20 deposit but I'm not sure we're going to camp at the weekend - we're only going 40 minutes from home and it seems ridiculous to freeze in a tent when we could be warm at home. Plus potential petrol problems too. Will see what happens.

Just got back from glorious weekend on Anglesey. Chilly at night but great by day

MegBusset · 02/04/2012 09:24

We camped at Easter a few years ago pre-DC (in the Peaks) and it was bloody freezing at night. Luckily there was a great pub nearby so we just stayed there til we were too drunk to feel the cold Grin

Next week we're going to Sandy Balls but in a caravan

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 02/04/2012 22:20

Yep.... we will be braving the snow and heading south to Exmouth. Electric heater and fleeces at the ready!

mogs0 · 02/04/2012 23:04

We're supposed to be going the week after next (ds' school doesn't break up until Thursday) but ds currently has a wound that needs re-dressing every other day by the community nurse so I'm not sure whether camping is such a good idea. Fingers crossed it'll be healed because I want to try out my new icey-tek Grin.

Is it still going to be cold in two weeks time?

DontCallMeBaby · 02/04/2012 23:57

We are! Next weekend. We're going to freeze to death, aren't we?

We're at Forest Farm in Staffordshire - DH camps in order to get closer to things that we want to do, it's been beaches to date but this time it's Alton Towers. MetCheck currently has it being -3 on Saturday night and feeling like -7!

DD and DH have airbeds, I have a SIM, we have foil mats, flannel sheets, I have a flannel sleeping bag liner (am Mrs Cold), we only have 2 season sleeping bags ... I have fleece PJs, DD has a ridiculous Primark pink bunny suit! My mum's going to lend us her many quilts (she makes them) and we have a couple of our own.

We have no heating - I think the site has limited EHU but don't know if we have it, and gas heaters freak me out. But I may have to make an emergency trip to Go Outdoors before Friday, if it comes to that or call it all off. We've paid for the theme park in advance as well, to get the online saving - it's going to backfire bigtime if we don't go!

Any tips? I've already decided I'll have to take Baileys to tip into my coffee instead of my usual chilled white wine. Brr.

pictish · 03/04/2012 00:12

Oooh maybe. Half a chance.
I'm worried it's going to be too cold.

I have camped this early in the year before, but not with kids...and our youngest is a cold potato, who hates being cold.

Might put it off till May.

humpdebump · 03/04/2012 00:27

Is there anything at all we can use to heat up a tent without electric hook up? (and not gassing ourselves to death). I have serious concerns about the cold this year, I have all the blankets, thermarests, duvets and hand warmers to the ready. Just been outside and it is more than nippy mcnip nip! A battery fan heater would be ace.....they don't exist do they??? Do they???

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 03/04/2012 07:28

Ooooh I like the Baileys and Coffee idea DCMB..... although I may actually go for hot chocolate and amaretto. Grin

EssieW · 03/04/2012 07:42

Am very impressed with all your plans. We're in a yurt over Easter cos I wanted a wood burning stove in tent. I am a wuss. I also have a DD who does not need to be put off camping this early in the year. I am camping week after Easter in Brecon beacons - but not with my kids. Previous years have always seen ice on the tent!

everythingtodo · 03/04/2012 07:55

You're all bonkers - tis snowing and blizzarding here today!

My rule for camping is i wont do it until it is 10C at night - and no lower. Every year DH tries to talk me round, and every year i hold my ground..i like it balmy!

pictish · 03/04/2012 10:16

Well...it's snowing here, so for today at least, the camping trip is off!

DontCallMeBaby · 03/04/2012 10:26

Argh, this is doing my head in - up until yesterday the forecast temperature was creeping up, then it started forecasting rain (which is no fun for camping of course, esp when your tent is huge and you have nowhere to dry it, but particularly ick for a theme park weekend) and NOW the forecast temperature is back down to maximum 4 degrees and minimum MINUS FARKING 5. DH thinks we should book a hotel. :(

oranges123 · 03/04/2012 10:27

Forgewood for us. Campfires - hurrah! No EHU - boo. We will be taking our Coleman gazebo thingy so will at least have shelter from the snow/sleet etc, although I am now wishing we had sprung for the sides.

Less than an hour from home though so if DD starts to turn blue we can head home to sleep [lightweight emoticon]

Grockle · 03/04/2012 13:59

We're not going. It's just too cold for it to be fun. I've camped in the snow before but am not willing to do it now. So, longhorns at may bank holiday then Lyme Regis st half term, I think.
