We've thinking of having one week in france and quite like the idea of camping but want a few luxuries (especially with a little baby).

Has anyone tried these two companies, what are the good points, bad points, what were the kids clubs like, and are they any good???

any advice would be much appreciated..

We've been with Canvas before who were very good. They tend to use the same sites as Eurocamp and the tents and their facilities are virtually identical, so you might like to go for the cheapest (hard to tell with all the supplements sometimes).

We've also done Siblu (when they were called Haven) and found them much cheaper than Canvas or Eurocamp so we got a brand new caravan for the same money. Personally with a baby I just had to go for the caravan option and was glad I did for toilet and cleaning facilities and also just cleanliness as she was bottom shuffling at that stage. But do wish I had the nerve to camp, it is such good fun and you sleep well in that fresh air!

Only used the kids club with Siblu, not Canvas and it was a go along with your child type club for 0-4s. We didnt go more than twice cos it was easier to go out for the day with her or head to the pool. I seem to remember seeing the older groups having lots of fun and making friends and I was very impressed with all the staff.

With Canvas the welcome person was just a guy with a canvas tent there, there was no reception and I think he held the kids clubs in his tent! so it was a lot more informal. I think this is the case wherever a few companies share the same sites and on the smaller sites.

Hope that helps

Canvas are great, we find their knowledge about sites when you book, and the area around when you get there are excellent, better at a pinch than Keycamp. You will get more choice of sites with Keycamo/ Eurocamp.

Where are you thinking of going?

Kids clubs are good if your child is a natural 'joiner inner' not so good if they need coaxing.

Im with hockeymum. Siblu offer lovely accomodation and have a great range of sites. I love camping but until ds2 is a bit older I will stick to the luxury of a caravan.
I have had 3 holidays with siblu in france and on two occasions we were subjected to at least one night of severe storms (in june and sept) so i was grateful for the added security of the caravan.

nooo.we went last year and it was disappointing.
We used canvas but at the camp site there was haven and keysomething and another one.
It was in pierrefitte in the loire valley.
Reasons we didn't like it;

Cramped caravan
Caravans really close to each other so there was no where for ds to play.He played with other kids in the car park right behind our caravan,so we had to go and stand and watch him as he was only 2y10m at the time.

It was really really busy.Pool was huge and full!
Water was freezing,no sun cream allowed.
Loads of facilities, shop, etc but it just wasn't for us.Put us off doing that sort of holiday again. The kids club was only for 4 and up.

We go with French life as they take the tesco clubcard vouchers. 4 x their value in deals tokens!!Whayhay! can only recommend French 'camping' - I only do caravans too! trecking to the loo in the middle of the night ain't my idea of fun! Also have watched people in tents spend their hols sweeping sand out of tents while I supped wine!

that site Milliways recommends has a fab discussion board where you can ask about any site and someone's bound to have been!

Took my youngest to France at 3 months and it was great!
