Best-ds (2) absolutely loving camping Grin we also loved Roundhill in the new forest.

Worse- the novelty of short tempered aggressive new forest ponies is seriously wearing off. They are little shits (I prefer the donkeys!)

Best: Lots of fun with friends at Loch Ken in south-west Scotland despite the showers. Kids all running about the camp-site, 'fishing' with nets in the loch and generally having a great time. Barbecues and camp-fires most nights and lots of beer and wine.

Visits to some really fun places - Galloway Organic Ice Cream farm highly recommended especially the 'tasting' session of 10 different ice creams - heaven! (oh and their children's indoor and outdoor play areas)
Our 4.2 pop-up - makes camping so much easier

Worst: As usual the rather unpredictable weather and getting a horrid cold half way through our week at Loch Ken - yuk.

Off to investigate 'gin in a tin' - what a genius idea.....

Hey 5ofUs! We are still here, keeping our heads down :)

Which New Forest campsite did you go to? Did you get harrssed by ponies?!

Hey SeaShells - good to bump into you again. Good call on keeping super stealthy. Hope all good with you all.

New Forest was Lytton Lawn near Milford on Sea. No ponies anywhere near the site Grin

Oh, I'll have a look at that one-we live locally but after some fairly moments with them I'm temped to try to avoid them next time!

We're only the other side of Southampton so it was a local trip for us too Smile

Best: popup tent with porch meant that we were pitched and off campsite, onto the beach and in canoes within 30 mins of arriving at camp. site overlooks the sea and is quiet. Toilet block not the best and ds1 was keen to walk onto the neighbouring site, which we've used before, to use their showers!

No worst, for once. However the previous year .... (bleaches brain at the thought of the rain rain rain rain rain rain and creepy creaking metal barn with scary landowner)...

Brambleschooks · 14/11/2011 16:20

Should have said, best was on the lleyn, or 'Afghanistahn' as ds1 calls it (dyslexic with occasional word finding issues!).

Worst was Tenby, which is gorgeous when not raining!

Any thoughts on where to order stuff for camp cooking on a campfire? What are the basics for the campfire novice?

nottersthespy · 14/11/2011 16:55
