Hi, we are looking for a site but have left it a bit late. Dh has been searching but is getting despondent as he keeps finding sites that seem ideal and then comes across a major drawback, like portaloos or something. Any suggestions lovely Mumsnetters?
We don't go for the flash all singing/dancing places with 'entertainment' just somewhere friendly and reasonably quiet. However, must have decent showers and loos (preferably with disabled facilities if poss), I was serious about not wanting portaloos as ds is disabled and I don't fancy trying to squeeze into one of those with him!
Oh and dh wants electrical hook-up, which I am against and have resisted for years but he has now gone and bought it anyway, Grrr!
Thanks. Smile

You can camp at Stoneleigh and they have good toilet/shower blocks with disabled facilities.

Hi, dh and I recently stayed at this one
www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=2687
and we thought it was pretty good. The showers were fine (free, hot, adjustable for temperature etc), and there was a disabled toilet in the ladies (not sure about the gents!)

The site is flat and fairly sheltered, and there are hook-ups, though we didn't bother. The owner / wardens were friendly and helpful, and there's a nice pub and shop in the village (the Folly). Nice cream teas served in the farm orchard at weekends!

Downsides - not many! The grass has some 'interesting' holes which are awkward underfoot, so be careful where you pitch. There wasn't much for children to do, except run around / ride bikes, but that seems ok to me.

Ah well, they haven't replied to any of our messages and they never answer their phone so that's that for Holt farm, shame it sounded nice.

Never mind, we've managed to get into Stoneleigh. Smile

AND... literally 5 mins later Holt farm finally rings back. Typical!
