I spotted an esoteric tent today! What on earth was it?

was driving past UK&siteTypes=1, 2, 3, 5 this campsite just now, and stopped to buy eggs - my pretext for stalking the tent I'd spotted from the road. My first thoughts flew to Slubber, because this was no ordinary tent: it was a canvas beauty with many many pegging points and a decidedly Continental silhouette. It could have been a pyramide...? It was natural canvas-coloured, and I could only see it from the backside, which was very sexily curvy (you could almost call it apsidal). The front of it reared up majestically and I'm pretty sure the entrance had two poles, whereas there was just the one pole in the main body of the tent. Most intriguingly, it seemed to have a side porch or awning or something, but that was on the far side so I couldn't see properly. It was extremely well pitched - even I can tell that!

I was rubber-necking from the far side of a small field, and felt far too shy about going up and having a closer look, but I could see a label at the back of the tent. Can I have sighted a De Waard??

I LOVE your description A LOT. It almost certainly was a pyramid with the central pole and two poles at the entrance (you had me at sexily curvy).

Whether it was a de waard or not I cannot say, many many pegging points is a clue, although most pyramides have a shed load of guys.

How lovely. You should have gone and asked, you may have found a family of Elves the Dutch in there looking continental and beauteous.

Slubber, I looked at the rear end of your tent on your profile and on google, and I'm pretty sure this Esoteric Tent was even curvier. Taut, flawless canvas, it was.

I'm wondering if I can manufacture an excuse to drive past again tomorrow at teatime and catch the Elves Dutch tent folk. There're only so many eggs I can use. And I reaped the benefits of detouring and stopping off on the way home today - DS1 (3) went to sleep in the car and was consequently a complete bugger to get to sleep this evening. Still, DH's job at the moment, not mine.

Seriously, do people mind if strangers walk into a camping field and have a nosey? It's a tiny site - there were only three tents pitched yesterday and no caravans.

I like trying to read Dutch. If you squint, it almost turns into English. My absolute favourite phrase on a Dutch tent website is "Klik hier voor die prijslijst." It's very intelligible!

... it had gone. The bird has flown. The Dutch Tent Folk must have struck and departed this morning. So we'll never know. I do have one craptastic shot, taken yesterday on my phone, but I can't find the lead to get the picture off phone and onto computer.

However, I like the idea of a sexpot tent. The more I perve look at De Waard tenten, the more I'm sure it was one of theirs, though I'm sure other quality tent manufacturers are available.

Slubber, was 'what the Bell was going on' an innocent typo, or have you now incorporated sniping at Bellend tents into your sweary repertoire? Very effcient.
