Please I need a campsite in normandy

We have had to re-arrange our holiday at late notice thanks to my husbands work commitments (steam still coming out of ears!!). We were originally going to carnac but for various reasons, we are now looking at Normandy. My children are 3 and 4 1/2 so a family friendly site with pools is a must. It doesn't have to be huge with lots of entertainment, just enough to keep the children occupied. I would like clean shower blocks, a big pitch with ehu and a little shop if possible.

Does anybody have any recommendations? Thank you!

We stayed at the Chateau Lez Eaux Eurocamp site, which was very nice. Playground, shop, swimming pools, not to over the top either.

Thank you deepfriedcupcake! I was just going through the ukcampsite list now. The trouble is that I have no idea at all about the area. The Chateau Lez Eaux was at the top of my short list. Will have another look.

I'm a bit worried about the weather not being too nice (we're going in about 10 days time) and there not being any beaches........ maybe I'm still yearning for Carnac.....

there are fantastic beaches in Normandy - what about Houlgate, a lovely resort with enormous sandy beach. Plenty of campsites in the vicinity.

We stayed on a fairly basic one , not with the facilities you'd like, but the area is lovely. This one gets some good reviews La Vallee

the area is green and leafy inland, with windy roads and cider farms, and that fabulous coastline.

The whole bit from Cherbourg down to Caen is lovely sandy beaches (with a few historical Normandy Landings landmarks still about the place), which go out for ages when the tide is out. The top bit near Barfleur is lovely too, nice little harbour there and fairly quiet smaller beaches.

The western side of the Cherbourg peninsula (if that's what it's called) also had some lovely smaller beaches with some more rock-pool rocky areas too that DS loved. The beach was a short car drive down from Chateau Lez Eaux, though I think there may have also been a path from the campsite. We spend many days at the beach and loved it. Granville is a nice market town and mont St Michel is not too far away either, and there's a nice zoo just inland.

thank you! I am feeling a bit better about the whole thing now. I've had quite a nightmare week with my husband's work first saying we should cancel, (I don't think they realised that we were camping which is much more flexible than say a week in the maldives!) We've then had to postpone twice and I have finally pinned them down to next weekend. The trouble is that we would now miss my mother and sister who will be out there waiting for us and missing them in not an option for my daughter! What a saga.....

could you go on ahead with DC, see your mum and sis, stay somewhere until your DH gets there, then do the camping?

Hi iheartdusty, that was my initial idea. However, I have done 2 holidays without my dh and I didn't want to go without him this time. He needs a break so badly. We've hardly had any family time lately as he has been stuck on this ridiculous thing at work. My sister and mum are camping too, we were going to all be in neighbouring pitches at our favourite site in carnac and then they were going to head off to normandy to see the d-day beaches etc. Now we would arrive in carnac the day they leave, hence the focus on normandy.

I love carnac and know it, I do not know normandy at all apart from as the place you drive through on the way to the ferry. It's tough; do I take us all to Carnac where we know or do we go to normandy which I am not too keen on just so that my daughter (4 1/2) can have the 3 day overlap with her grandma. (who lives in wiltshire so we do see her at home too!).

The campsites you have all recommended in normandy do look good and I think we would be happy at any of them. However, my sister does not want too busy a campsite with "children running around everywhere". Somehow I don't think I'm going to please everybody here!

Maybe I need to sleep on it.

We stayed at La Vallee 2 years ago and it was perfectly ok. Nice site, lots of space, pony rides on site (I have 2 DDs so happy children), nice play area, good onsite shop plus bar, pizzas takeaway etc etc. Loos clean, high hedges between pitches so quite private. 10 mins walk from beach and lots of other beaches (Deauville and WW2 beaches so lots of choice). We also went to the Hippodrome at deauville for the day to see the racing, which was quite fun. Plus the Pegasus bridge at wiki link is worth visiting - good museum for children and very moving without being morbid (I had problems visiting cemetaries with dd1 aged just 5).
I would go back, lovely place for small children holidays.

We went to Normandy for Easter - it was great. The beaches were lovely and the scenery wonderful. We stayed here. It has lots of facilities and is near to the beach. I would throughly recommend it, and the whole of Normandy. I hope you have a good holiday, it sounds like you need it .

We stayed at camping Port'land near Bayeux - not too far from Caen (Ouistreham). Great sandy beaches nearby - site had play areas and a good pool plus restaurant and was great for cycling around. Pitches were marked out with hedges and could be large or small. We walked to nearby fishing village along cliff to watch fireworks on a Friday.

Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it. Things changed again last night and we've ended up going to Carnac. My sister and mother are swapping their holiday round so they will still be there for a few days. Phew! Now the music has stopped I hope for no more changes! At last I have a holiday to look forward to. Will definitely check out normandy next year though!
