What do I need for electricity hook-up in France

We are off to south of France in a few weeks (yay!) and have reserved a mini-fridge at the campsite - we will have electricity on out pitch, and will want to use for a few things. But what do we need to plug in/ adaptors etc? Stupidly though it would be an ordinary household plug....
Any thoughts as well on indispendable hot-weather camping items gratefully recieved

You will need a continental plug for the hook up as they arent the same as the uk. If you've got your own you can get adaptors to convert them. Also the fridge you are hiring will come with continental plug so you will probably need an adaptor for that too.

Some campsites have the normal blue EHU plug and some have the French two-pin adaptor. Some have a mixture of both on the same site. You will need a special EHU wire to put into the post on your pitch. If you haven't had EHU before, go and look on ukcampsite under the Camping and Caravanning abroad section.

I've tried to copy and paste a product from Go Outdoors to show you exactly what I mean. www.gooutdoors.co.uk/product-search/text/electric+hook+up. Sorry, link didn't work. You may then need an extra adaptor from the blue bit with a two-pin plug on the end. You probably won't know until you arrive on site. Also, sometimes in the south of France the distance from your pitch to the EHU post is more than 25m so you might need an extension lead for that, too.

You also have to be quite careful what you use at the same time, eg you can't use a hairdrier and a kettle at the same time as the amount of electricity needed will be too great for the socket. It may be that just your bit needs resetting, or it may be that the whole post blows and everyone in that area's electric won't work.

Hope you have a lovely time.

We have a 'French adaptor' that plugs into our own EHU and that's it. We do take an 4 pin adptor so that phones/cameras etc can be charged at the same time.
You could get a small electric fan - low wattage of course v good for hot weather camping. Take something to create some more shade for yourselves as a lot of sites in the deep south have very little. A tarp maybe?

and a gas bbq? many don't allow charcoal.

We are off too - no idea where yet!

Thanks everyone, will look into your suggestions. Don't see myself bothering with a hairdryer and glad no-one said take an iron Wink
We have seen the site we're going to and the pitches are pretty shady but a small fan sounds like a good idea. Charging phones and toothbrushes will be pretty important though - so thanks for that.
Counting the days now...

I'm a bit dim about electricity. Have bought one of these for ehu - www.gooutdoors.co.uk/mobile-mains-kit-p155317.

But to use in France, could any kind soul post a link to an adaptor that I will need to use with this?

(i tried to google on ukcampsite and am now a bit confused about reverse polarity and calculating amps - with electricity i understand on/off and "you need to buy one of these" that's it!! so thanks in advance for any v basic advice! )
